    Expensive; especially for the passenger in the case of an accident.

    Not really, most of the sensors and switches are already there on a modern car so all you need is a few wires, a swipe card reader and some solenoids. I’d guess that you could do it for about $100 and it would take maybe an afternoon, if you know your way around a soldering iron and multi-meter.

    …or you could just remove the airbag and that’s that. Because really…if you are some super criminal and the cops catch you…first place they are going to search is the airbag compartments so you’re screwed anyway.
