First let me say I have a firearms licence, so I am invested in certain privileges not being taken away.

It is called cross draw appendix carry. ( I know the appendix is on the other side but still)
Not unheard of. Not blazingly common. People of smaller stature might find it more comfortable than some of the other options. Most people I know do not use appendix carry because there is the potential to shoot your leg or crotch.
What I find interesting is that it says “keep civilians armed” as if someone had plans to disarm civilians. Outside of the NRA’s paranoid fantasies, no one in government envisions completely disarming the citizenry, just registering and regulating guns like we do cars, trucks and other dangerous things.

Bullshit. State legislatures are proposing bans and confiscations left and right, well left and farther left. Assorted members of Congress are working on bills to ban dozens of weapons and DoJ has a report which states that bans will be ineffective without confiscation. Just because they are lying to us doesn’t mean we should believe them.

I know over there it’s hard for people to understand that economic and political freedoms are inextricably intertwined with the fetishisation of small arms, nevertheless there is no ineluctable link. It’s perfectly possible for people on both sides of the political spectrum to conclude that unrestricted access to firearms in the US is a bad thing, and from there to decide that restrictions are an acceptable thing.
How do you equate “dozens of weapons” with “completely disarming the citizenry”? Do you realize that there are more than four thousand individual models of firearm sold in the US, and you’re bitching about a few dozen?
Plus, politicians “propose” stuff all the time, less than 1% actually become law. And DoJ reports are worthless without laws being enacted.
I don’t know about you, but I can defend my home just fine with a plain 12 gauge pump, an I’m not worried that anybody is going to try and take it away.

That’s because the rampages that are stopped by the police are in schools where helpless kids are gunned down, not adults who are going to fight back by any means necessary.
Think about that for a moment. If the Loon perpetrating the Massacre faced the Possibility of somebody ELSE being armed (Teacher, Custodian…) would they even TRY it?
Think about what you are saying. You would rather live in a society where teachers must be prepared to lay down their lives and/or kill intruders rather than one in which access to weapons is restricted. Have you asked the teachers about this?
Already the rest of the world is saying “Wait. There are parts of the US where they have to have armed guards in schools? What kind of fucked up shit is that?”

In all honesty my children go to school in a state where teachers are not only allowed but encouraged to be CCW. I personally believe that if a teacher isn’t of high enough moral character that I can trust her with my children’s safety and well being I definitely don’t want that teacher dicking around in my children’s heads.
Maybe we should just eliminate the police entirely since they’re obviously ineffective and replace them with civilian posses like in the old west.
Every mass shooting in the last thirty years or more has been in gun free zones. Next time a mass killing takes place at a gun shop, gun show, or firing range you may have a point.
Imagine what could be accomplished if we made the entire USA a gun free zone.

The border with Mexico and the border with Canada preclude any such declaration. There are already hundreds of entire groups of people who cross those borders illegally every year. To imagine that one or two of those wouldn’t choose to make money selling a rifle or handgun when they get here and the price is inflated because of a moronic weapons ban is just imbecilic. People risk death running heroin and cocaine inside their bodies….Why would they not risk running a rifle across in a backpack?

The 2012 Aurora shooting was in a theater, not a gun free zone. The 5/20/2012 in Seattle was in a coffee shop, not a gun free zone. The 8/3/2010 shootings in Manchester, Connecticut were in a beer warehouse, not a gun free zone. The 3/29/2009 killings in Carthage, North Carolina were in a nursing home, not a drug free zone.
And while I don’t know of any at a gun show, there have been plenty of cases of armed, trained police officers being gunned down like the case in Parkland, Washington (11/29/2009)or armed soldiers as in Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington (6/20/1994)or the November 5, 2009 shootings at Fort Hood, TX

The Aurora theater banned concealed carry. Signs were evident on the doors even in the media shots of the theater after the shooting.
Seattle coffee shop also banned concealed carry.
Beer warehouse banned employees even having guns in the parking lot in their cars.
I have no information on the old folks home but I imagine that they didn’t allow decrepit old people to have firearms in their rooms.
Fairchild Air Force Base and Fort Hood are both gun free zones. All arms not in the hands of active on duty MPs are locked in an armory. To retrieve your personal firearm you have to request by phone or by email to meet the armorer at the armory and by God if it is after 1700 hours you will NOT get that firearm. There are few MPs on duty at any one time and they responded as quickly as normal police would.

Because those Places which averaged out to 14.3 were all “Gun Free Zones”. Schools are by Law. Virginia Tech had a very Strict “No Gun” Policy, as did the Theater in Arvada. The Nutjob in Arvada did NOT go to the Theater nearest his Home, nor the the Biggest in the Area, both of THOSE allowed Concealed Carry. But NOT the one where he did his Deed.

He reportedly had scouted out the location ahead of time so he know where to park and which theater he wanted to attack. He booby trapped his apartment and had back up firearms when his crappy drum magazine jammed.
Total amount of shooting rampages stopped by armed civilians: ZERO.

11/15/1995 – Jamie Rouse used a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle to fire indiscriminately inside Richland High School in Lynnville, Tennessee. He killed 2 people before being tackled by a football player and a coach.
2/2/1996 – Barry Loukaitis entered Frontier Middle School in Moses Lake, Washington with a rifle and two handguns. He killed 3 people before the Gym teacher, Jon Lane grabbed the rifle and wrestled the gunman to the ground.
10/1/1997 – Luke Woodham put on a trench coat to conceal a hunting rifle and entered Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. He killed 3 students before vice principal Joel Myrick apprehended him with a Colt .45 without firing.
12/1/1997 – Michael Carneal brought a pistol, two rifles and two shotguns to his high school in Paducah, Kentucky and opened fire on a small prayer group killing 3 girls. His rampage was halted when he was tackled by another student.
4/24/1998 – Andrew Wurst attended a middle school dance in Edinboro, Pennsylvania intent on killing a bully but shot wildly into the crowd. He killed 1 student. James Strand lived next door. When he heard the shots he ran over with his 12 gauge shotgun and apprehended the gunman without firing.
5/21/1998 – Kipland Kinkel entered Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon with two pistols and a semi-automatic rifle hidden under a trench coat. He opened fire killing 2 students, but while reloading a wounded student named Jacob Ryker tackled him.
4/20/1999 – Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were the killers behind the Columbine shooting in Littleton, Colorado. The two both commit suicide after police arrived, but what many people do not know is that the school’s armed security guard and the police all stood and waited outside the library while executions happened right inside. 15 people died, not including the shooters.
1/16/2002 – Peter Odighizuwa opened fire with a handgun at The Appalachian School in Grundy, Virginia. 3 people were killed before the shooter was apprehended by 3 students, Mikael Gross, Ted Besen, and Tracy Bridges with handguns without firing.
2/12/2010 – Amy Bishop went on a shooting rampage in classroom at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. She killed 3 people before the Dean of the University, Debra Moriarity pushed the her out of the room and blockaded the door. She was arrested later.
1/8/2011 – Jared Lee Loughner is charged with the shooting in Tucson, Arizona that killed 6 people, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll. He was stopped when he was tackled by two civilians.
4/22/2012 – Kiarron Parker opened fire in a church parking lot in Aurora, Colorado. The shooter killed 1 person before being shot and killed by a member of the congregation who was carrying concealed.
