I.T. Support is a very high stress job, not always worth the pay. Also, it doesn’t pay as well as you think. This is referring to the Tech Support that get all the dumb questions, not Bill Gates or Steve Jobs that made the idiots have the dumb questions.
It’s funny how most of the complaints you hear IT people make consist of “This one time, someone actually expected me to actually do, my actual job, like what the fuck?”.
IT is an industry because it requires a very specialised skillset that is nonetheless needed pretty much everywhere. If you work in IT then a large part of your job is going to be being a prosthetic brain for the people you work for. If this is the kind of thing that annoys you then you shouldn’t go into IT, it’s like a maths teacher complaining that his students don’t already know calculus. Helping people who don’t know about computers is the whole point of your job.
No, as a Network Engineer, I love doing my job, if it’s no-shit Engineer stuff. What I hate is doing stupid shit that users could google to figure out themselves… I mean, sure, I’ll charge you $150 an hour to disable compatibility mode in IE so a website works… the error was RIGHT THERE.
