I very much like the concept-art version (top pic) better; wish they’d stuck to it more…but a pretty cool design all the same.

    Assuming not traveling in air-less space: would you need a ship to be aerodynamic with a force field enveloping the craft?

    I think there’s an inconsistently-used design ethos in Star Trek where ships are designed along “warp-dynamic lines” or somesuch.

    And force fields are a convenience that real-space scifi almost can’t do without. Otherwise, any ship traveling near or past the speed of light would require massive hulls for radiation shielding.
