[blockquote]On the morning of May 18, Kehoe first killed his wife and then set his farm buildings on fire. As fire fighters arrived at the farm, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many of the people inside. Kehoe used a detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of pyrotol which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers started gathering at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and detonated a bomb inside his shrapnel-filled vehicle, killing himself and the school superintendent, as well as killing and injuring several others. During the rescue efforts, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol planted throughout the basement of the school’s south wing.
After the bombings investigators found a wooden sign wired to the farm’s fence with Kehoe’s last message, “CRIMINALS ARE MADE, NOT BORN,” written on it.[/blockquote]

Meh…so much for blockquoting on submissions. :\
If you really think about it: criminals are both made and born.
People are born with genetic conditions that predispose them towards erratic, unruly, even psychotic behavior, sure, but I don’t believe for a single instant that anybody is “born evil”.
Bath Schoolhouse Disaster. American Terrorism. That guy, Kehoe, his beef was that he didn’t think that he should pay taxes so children could attend school. His ilk are everywhere now. He complaints sounded just like the Tea Party. Kehoe would rather murder children than pay his taxes. The guy had plenty of cash. He murdered his own wife and killed all his livestock just before he attacked. He planted bombs in a public school to murder children. He was wildly successful too.
I suspect that the Connecticut psycho and his murdered gun-nut home-schooling mom were cut from the same cloth as Mr. Kehoe.
Sounds like he went Full Galt.
Never go Full Galt.
Not a fan of Rand myself, fuck knows –but please find me the part of “Atlas Shrugged” where the slaughtering of children occurs.
Sounds like the Tea Party really? When did the tea party ever say they want to stop funding schools? You are a Brainwashed sheep. Stop watching MSMBC! The Tea Party is about your freedom. But youre to stupid to see that. Your goverment is coming for you the “useful idiots”!
^Christ, it’s like a bingo card of shitty InfoWars cliches…
A few points:
1. Kehoe had neither “plenty of cash” or was “wildly successful” at the time of the atrocity. He did have enough to pay off his debts, which were accrued from, yes, opposition to taxes, but also from his wife being seriously ill. He wasn’t destitute, but he wasn’t sleeping on beds of money, either.
2. You raise an interesting correllation in that the mother was originally from New Hampshire, where gun culture and tax opposition is pretty much a way of life.
Whether the mom was a Tea Partier is something that hasn’t come up yet AFAIK, but the arsenal she kept certainly supports the idea.
3. In this instance, it seems that home-schooling wasn’t really her choice; was more or less forced upon her by kid’s dysfunctions.
Edits: Should’ve said that home schooling wasn’t her only choice; of course there were other options open to her, like tutoring (which she seemed more than capable of affording.) Personally I think it takes one hell of an ego to think that your own personal base of knowledge exceeds that of an entire school…but that’s just me.
Also, I know gun owners who are certainly NOT teabaggers, so my statement that her gun ownership supports the idea that she was, is, in retrospect, full of shit.
You are right, he didn’t have a ton of cash, but he had plenty of assets. The guy simply didn’t believe in taxes for the common good and saw the murder of children as an acceptable way to express his frustration.
It has been reported that Ms. Lanza homeschooled her kid and kept a bunch of guns because she was concerned about the direction of the country.
I hear that same BS from a lot of folks these days. Tea Party, Ultra Right, mainly from folks in states that get far more federal cash than they pay in.
This Lanza “kid” was only 20. He almost assuredly acquired his worldview from his mom.
Time will tell, but I’d bet that the evidence will lead right back to her and her gun enthusiast lifestyle.
–edit–
by “wildly successful” I meant successful in murdering innocents around nearly 40 kids, plus a car bomb.
He was not successful in farming or business.
Criminals are “made” by fools who make bad choices, have no self control, and blame everyone else for their misery. Pretty fkn simple.
