Don’t you feel like Marvel and DC stories are kind of pointless now? After so many retcons in a world where actions really don’t have long-term repercussions anyways, what do you get out of Marvel/DC comics?
i hear ya brother, believe me. when the “new 52” started, i was reading 30 of the 52. now, a year later, i read 6. lets be honest. with newspapers and magazines going under everyday, and almost every title that marvel and dc puts out available digitally the same week, comics have a limited future. TP’s already destroyed the back issue market, and the collect-ability of comics is limited to only the very rare or signed comics. the future looks grim. our online subs have grown by 400 new subscribers, but theyre only buying 1 or 2 books, and we offer a 20% discount, and over half of what we charge is shipping, so no ones getting rich. comic movies bring in new readers, but for a limited time only, then they bail. the real money is in owning the copyrighted and trade marked properties, using them in videogame, movies ect. so, to answer your question, most of my enjoyment is anchored in my 95 long boxes of old stuff. thats why i love when hochunk posts that old stuff.
Personally I like the limited length comic book series with a beginning and an end, like Preacher and Red Son. Anything new in that category that you’d recommend?
Well, one of the best titles out there is FABLES by Bill Willingham. I can’t tell you when it’ll end, but it can’t go on forever. That and MOUSE GUARD on Arcadia comics is great as well. As far as superhero stuff, honestly I like a few, but all I could recommend is probably DD. Brian K Vaughan has an awesome ongoing called SAGA that’s great too. Hope this helps.
Couldn’t agree more on the FABLES recommend. I wish I didn’t snub it when it started. I read the first issue online and ripped through the first 7 TPBs within a couple weeks. Have all the single issues since.
Daredevil also a great read. I just had my entire run, 1>19 signed by Mark Waid.
this was a fine story. to bad after the “new 52”, it never happened.

I shall check them out. Thank you, aquaman43.
For me personally, the cancer of retconning started when they brought back Jean Grey.
