That would a fucking horrible thing, they’d probably turn it into something that assimilated entire planets instead of destroying them.
I’ve always wondered why they couldn’t just beam their nanites over instead of having to us that direct contact probe they all have. Be a lot easier to assimilate a ship if half the crew was already on your side by the time you got there.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….” remember that bit? So, if you’re going to pull this little argument, think of how much more ADVANCED the Star Wars tech would be compared to the Federation’s “Human Future” level of advancement.
Nope. You have to go with what is presented. And what is presented is “… long time ago..”. “Relative” really has nothing to do with it all in that it’s would STILL be considered “…long time ago…” no matter what time the Federation was in operation (relative to it’s position on the timeline).
Unless we want to trot out the Roddenberry Ultimate Nullifier and go with OMGTIMETRAVEL. In which case… whatever gets you off, fanboy/girl.
What is presented is relative, because everything is relative. We just may not know what it is relative to.
And arguing the technology level is bunk, because we don’t have the technology level of Star Wars now. There’s no way to properly compare the technology level of the two fictional societies without contriving lots of jumps of reason.
Basically, this is a senseless argument, and can not be won by either position.
All fictional battles happen in a neutral space/time. The battle is an Imperial Star Destroyer vs. a Federation Galaxy Class Starship.
These are not the flagships of anyone, in other words, No nameable characters are on either ship.
1= SD’s have a serious design flaw, the dome on the bottom is the bottom of its power reactor( and pretty crappy shielded too, 2 mimes and a torpedo can take it out. but i don’t want to waste mimes like that). 2= Who in the hell would use a fed design considered 30+ years old. 3= fed rules of engagement would dictate do not fire unless fired upon. 4= Is the Rebel Alliance involved with this, if so, then feds back out saying that this is an internal matter. and 5= i have the deck plans of an ISD in an old west end games Star wars rpg book.
You bring up an excellent point. The federation would just ignore it because it’s their own damn civil war. Not like it’s spread across the galaxy or anything, right?
The Star Destroyer would open fire and the Galaxy class would raise shields and take evasive actions trying to find a non-lethal way of coming to a resolution until their weapons are disabled and then finding a way at the very last moment to destroy the Star Destroy using…
SD wins hands down, it has multiple turbo laser emplacements and sheilds, and something the Enterprise does not…T.I.E Fighters, and if you want to go for a boarding action Storm Troopers would kick the Federations Mustard Shirt wearing prime directive wimps any day, as for Borg Vs. Deathstar. DS just needs one shot. They wont have time to adapt…
Indeed Q is pretty cool : )
Hmmmm, Ok let me put it to you like this.
If you had to exist in one of these, lets call them Universes, which one would it be?
Star Trek? You have the Q (Who Rock), Klingons, Romulans, Cardasians and the rest, and this is the major down point..The Federation. Theyre much to “Oh no we cant do that think of the prime directive” and “Ooo wont someone think of the Children!”
Or Star Wars?
Sith, Force powers, Wookies, people like Han Solo and Leia in a slave outfit, Storm Troopers, Androids, Robots, Jawas, things like the Death Star, Light Sabres and lots of cool uniforms…well if you’re on the Dark Side, I mean they have more cloaks then anyone, well maybe except the Romulans (Umm bad joke is bad)…and their major down sides are Jedi and Lucas.
I see your point, but I give you this, teleportation. The GC (Galaxy Class) can easily teleport a boarding party onto the SD. They could also just teleport some photon torpedoes into key areas of the SD, and warp away before the blast.
You cant transport if the shields are up.
So they would have to knock out the SDs shielding, and then drop their own. Bit risky if you ask me, especially if they are getting swarmed by TIE Fighters. I would also suggest that the SD has a far far bigger crew, and there for more Storm Troopers than the GC would have security.
If they have any shielded fighters, they might have a chance. TIE advanced, TIE interceptors, assault gunboats. Left over fighters from the Clone Wars like the ARC-170 might do as well. But unshielded Tie Fighters will drop like flies.
Right sorry to go overboard here but this is the general compliment carried by an Imperial Class Star Destroyer;
Armament
Dual heavy turbolaser turrets (6)[1]
Dual heavy ion cannon turrets (2)[1]
Quad heavy turbolasers (2)[1]
Triple medium turbolasers (3)[1]
Medium turbolasers (2)[1]
Taim & Bak XX-9 heavy turbolasers (60)[1]
Borstel NK-7 ion cannons (60)[1]
Phylon Q7 tractor beam projectors (10)[6]
Complement
TIE/ln starfighter (48)[1]
TIE/sa bomber (12)[1]
TIE boarding craft (12)[1]
Lambda-class shuttles (8)[6]
Delta-class stormtrooper transports (15)[1]
Assault gunboats (5)[6]
A variable number of Skipray Blastboats
Gamma-class assault shuttle (1+)
Repair and recovery vehicles
Theta-class AT-AT barges
Sentinel-class landing craft (12)[1]
AT-AT walkers (20)[6]
AT-ST walkers (30)[6]
Prefabricated garrison base (1)
The deflector shield aren’t the same as the GC shields, particularly when it’s been show that an asteroid or A-Wing fighter are able to crash though into the SD’s Bridge (ROJ). A small fighter like that wouldn’t normally get through a federation ships shields. Of course the GC doesn’t have to drop shields to fire multiple Photon torpedoes, so it should be no contest. Fire the torpedoes, warp away, and warp back to blast any escape pods, even the unmanned ones.
Interesting question, as I dont really know much about ST appart from what I have seen on the TV shows, do they have dedicated warships?
I seem to remember there was a ground army, but that might have just been a board game.
Cool, I think due to the Hijinks the Enterprise Crew gets up to and into every week..or should I say did, you tend to forget its not a warship.
Might have to go have a little google fest on Star Trek.
I’m more amused that people keep bring up things that have nothing to do with the battle, like Death Stars and the Borg.
If I had realized how passionate people were going to be I’d have probably posted some guidelines as to the scope of the battle from the beginning.
I’m almost tempted to say “A Wild Tardis Appears!!” just to see what would happen then.
This is serious stuff dude.
Hows about Solo Vs Kirk and Reynolds.
Actually scrub that, we should have Leia, Troi, Zoe and Adria fighting…naked….in oil.
Excuse me I need to visit the fridge again.
Ooooo yeah, her and Leia….together….excuse me for a moment. I have to go slam something in the fridge door.

Yeah I liked the shows when they were on, I need to get the box sets. Am sick of trying to stream them over here.
Sadly we seem to be lacking good Sci-Fi shows these days.

Playing STO (Star Trek Online), I would take an Odyssey class Tactical cruiser with phased polaron beam array’s and quantum torpedo’s and mine racks, (I WILL FRAK IT UP CRACKING SHIELDS AND SHUTTING DOWN POWER SYSTEMS)
I’d say Star Destroyer. The federation just doesn’t have the stomach for violence or the ability to repel the squads of storm troopers that would inevitably board the fed ship. Besides, the SD has way more firepower than the galaxy, and as soon as the galaxy lost her shields, she would be swarmed by TIE fighters, keeping the crew distracted long enough for the boarding troops to land.

a transport pad, a timer, and 5 cubic liters of antimatter in a magnetic bottle……..
BOOM, no more SD and im running away at high warp sacking my XO at the same time
Enterprise, of course. Federation ships are shielded against energy weapons, while Imperial ships are not.
Death Star Vs Borg?
Borg, DS doesn’t have that good of weapons like the Borg
The Death Star Vs. Borg would end with the Borg having a Death Star.
That’s not a good thing, either.
That would a fucking horrible thing, they’d probably turn it into something that assimilated entire planets instead of destroying them.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….” remember that bit? So, if you’re going to pull this little argument, think of how much more ADVANCED the Star Wars tech would be compared to the Federation’s “Human Future” level of advancement.
Advantage: Lucas
Everything is relative. That bit about a long time ago could be from the relative view of someone far into the future.
Nope. You have to go with what is presented. And what is presented is “… long time ago..”. “Relative” really has nothing to do with it all in that it’s would STILL be considered “…long time ago…” no matter what time the Federation was in operation (relative to it’s position on the timeline).

Saying “Welp! Everything is relative so derp!” is intellectually lazy.
“… long time ago..”.
It’s not like I didn’t then explain my position.
The two fictional societies have no relation to each other, so comparing them is not really possible.
And besides, breached warp cores, like I said, win every engagement.
All fictional battles happen in a neutral space/time. The battle is an Imperial Star Destroyer vs. a Federation Galaxy Class Starship.
These are not the flagships of anyone, in other words, No nameable characters are on either ship.
All the Enterprise has to do is launch a breached warp core. Those things are pretty much a win against anything.
Arent star destroyers massive compared to the Enterprise?
www.merzo.net/
Size is not always an indication of combat ability, of course.
Victory SD about the length of DS9, IIRC.
Correct
Yes
Ignore all that. This is your typical “what if”. Only the fight matters, not how or why.
The Star Destroyer would open fire and the Galaxy class would raise shields and take evasive actions trying to find a non-lethal way of coming to a resolution until their weapons are disabled and then finding a way at the very last moment to destroy the Star Destroy using…
A breached warp core.
what happened to the Sovereign-class
SD wins hands down, it has multiple turbo laser emplacements and sheilds, and something the Enterprise does not…T.I.E Fighters, and if you want to go for a boarding action Storm Troopers would kick the Federations Mustard Shirt wearing prime directive wimps any day, as for Borg Vs. Deathstar. DS just needs one shot. They wont have time to adapt…
But the Federation has breached warp cores.
Really, they should just design their ships to carry 40 readily breachable warp cores.
They would become a dominant military power.
Ok, well hows about I see your breached warp cores and raise you two sith.
I’ll see your sith, and raise you Nagilium and the whole of the Q Continuum.
Bringing the sith in doesn’t really make sense. They are not a typical attachment to an Imperial SD crew.
But then again, neither is 40 breachable warp cores.
*on a federation ship.
Indeed Q is pretty cool : )
Hmmmm, Ok let me put it to you like this.

So my friend which one would you choose? Hmmmm?
If wanted to be a pilot, Star Wars.
If I wanted to be a researcher, Star Trek.
I see your point, but I give you this, teleportation. The GC (Galaxy Class) can easily teleport a boarding party onto the SD. They could also just teleport some photon torpedoes into key areas of the SD, and warp away before the blast.

Phasers would probably mince TIE fighters.

You mean breached warp cores, right?
It’s all clones vs. red shirts, the Storm Troopers would miss everything that aimed at, and the red shirts would die anyway.

Good Answer.
Me, I’d go Star Wars, as long as we could get rid of the Jedi, especially that little green bastard.
no we keep him and get rid of the rest
The Organians would probably stop the whole thing before it would start anyways….
I am amused that we are arguing the combat capabilities of a warship versus a science vessel.
Interesting question, as I dont really know much about ST appart from what I have seen on the TV shows, do they have dedicated warships?
I seem to remember there was a ground army, but that might have just been a board game.
They do. The Federation has the Constellation, Defiant, and Prometheus class warships.
Other groups have more warships than science ships. Klingons and Romulans have a lot of warships. Borg as well.
Cool, I think due to the Hijinks the Enterprise Crew gets up to and into every week..or should I say did, you tend to forget its not a warship.
