Looks like standard optical drive motor + some high voltage (ceramic stuff, under metallic stuff) on the sides (optical disc closes the gap in circuit).
But didn’t know “insides” of a CD\DVD was conductive. Nice.
Yep, we used to “erase” CDs in a microwave dedicated to that purpose back in college. It stinks, probably puts toxic fumes in the air, but no one is pulling data off that CD after it’s been microwaved for a few seconds. Helluva light show. We kept the microwave on an outside covered porch.
