They are torii gates, they can be made of almost anything, usually stone or hardwood The reason they remain standing after disasters that destroy surrounding buildings is that unlike buildings they have a very low surface area – they are almost all structure.
Also, these pictures are of two separate gates, the top one is indeed in Nagasaki in August 1945, after the atomic bomb, but the lower one is in Otsuchi on the northeast coast of Honshu. They are on two different islands on opposite ends of Japan about 1300 kilometers apart.

We know the pic is faked and have enjoyed it anyway. Now go jack off to Myth Busters.

At a place I work we had some engineers from a related company in Hiroshima make a business visit to here. We went downtown into old town and they remarked at all the nice old buildings. One of our interns, former air force, still with the short hair, still in his 20’s asks “Do you have any old buildings where you are from?” There is this awkward silence with all of us looking very embarrassed except for the kid, oblivious. The ever polite Japanese head engineer of the visit, possibly old enough himself to remember first hand, nicely replied “No, unfortunately we were unable to protect many of our old buildings. You are very fortunate to have been able to keep so many of yours.” I don’t think we ever let the kid live that one down, it really had just slipped his mind.
Anyhow, neat pic, if badly labeled.
That’s some funny shit, right there.
Unobtainium. Avatar doesn’t seem quite so stupid now.
Nagasaki is on the west side of Japan, The tsunami hit the east side of japan. Fake picture is fake.
