What I said was “it would suck if white people had to deal with racism the way everyone else does.”
What I think is that white people are sometimes, occasionally, misjudged and/or denied opportunities, as is something that happens to all people. I also think that that misjudgement and denial of opportunities happens to people of other races far more frequently. Also, that those denials are not only more common, but embedded deeper into mainstream culture, which is “white”, and that those misjudgements have far greater consequence.
A white person may sometimes be denied a social service or a job opportunity that is given to a person of another race with otherwise equal conditions. That is true, but I argue that this happens sometimes to people of the white race and frequently to people of essentially every other race, and that unemployment, poverty, arrest rates, and conviction rates are lower in white populations than in others.
As a straight white male living in North America, I would rather be called “dorky” on the occasional internet post, and have virtually every other social and intellectual good available to me, then to be pulled over for being the wrong color, shot for wearing the wrong sweatshirt, or denied employment for “not being a good fit.”
the title is racist, stupidity comes in all colors
Yeah, cause it would suck if white people had to deal with racism the way everyone else does. You know, through the rare internet gif title.
white people have to deal with racism all the time.
the fact that you think a person can’t be discriminated against because they are white illuminates my point.
I didn’t say white people can’t be discriminated against. I said worrying about that shit is silly.
