The notion that SOPA was going to end freedom of speech and the Internet is as ridiculous as the notion that it was going to reduce, let alone stop, piracy on the Internet.
With a law as ridiculously broad and subjective as that one, if it had passed, it would’ve taken 4chan about ten minutes to close down the website of every mayor movie studio, TV network and music company on copyright violation grounds using the law itself, which would have had it reverted faster than a speeding bullet.
But then again, it is almost customary for anyone who opposes any new law to scream at the world that the passing of such law will invariably result in the end of civilization as we know it. It’s nice to see the so-called liberal internet behaving exactly like the Westboro Baptist Church nutcases.
