I’d say that sums it up pretty nicely; she’s comparing their relative odds of having their respective practice time pay off. Telling him the odds doesn’t make her racist, it makes her viewpoint the product of a more racist age.
It certainly does look worse when viewed from the future, though…

Is it racist to tell the truth? Nope.
Charles Schulz used Peanuts to protest racism in sports. He did a series of cartoons where Snoopy represented Hank Aaron by getting hate-mail for attempting to break Babe Ruth’s record. Ironically a lot of people did not get the ‘reversed psychology’ aspect of Schulz’s humour and thought that he was actually racist himself.
