Actually Duc was protesting against the Roman Catholic persecution of Buddhists by South Vietnam’s Ngo Dinh Diem Roman Catholic administration. It was a result of the ongoing power struggle involving Buddhists who wanted to retain power in the government and Catholics who were trying to gain influence.
What they’re protesting is the use of political influence and campaign contributions to influence government in favor of the rich to the detriment of the rest of us – which results in large scale joblessness for no other reason than fast profit.
Fiscal Conservative actions like the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, the Citizens United decision, the Enron Loophole, Mark to Market and Arizona SB 1070 create a country where the wealthy have the tools to destroy the middle class with relative impunity.
Corporations can now make almost unlimited campaign contributions using superPACs so they can virtually write their own laws, take unreasonable risks and have the government bail them out if they fail out of the taxpayer’s pockets. When it comes time to help the working class, the cry is that the government can’t help because it would raise the national debt, which was no problem when they wanted to extend the Bush tax cuts for millionaires to the tune of $900 Billion.
Most taxpayers pay their taxes to insure good roads, good education for their kids and a good national defense – not to insure fat bonuses for wall street tycoons.
No one is objecting to people making an honest buck, they object to using the government as a shill in a rigged card game.
Wow, is that what the goal was? Because that is incredibly condescending. So not only are these people arrogant enough to think that their way is the only and best way, but also condescending enough to assume we are all just clueless about the “problem”. Which automatically assumes that we all see the same problem.
I bet not a single one of them knows that the financial crisis actually started with Jimmy Carter. That’s a clue. See how generous I am? I gave you a whole clue; you don’t have to get one yourself. I’m not going to explain the rest, you can google the rest for yourself.
The Community Reinvestment Act. Having been a young adult during the Carter years I vividly recall how he did his best to screw America up. Thought I had seen the worst president ever. Obama proved me wrong.

Well, I can protest like a real man but you’re going to scream like a little girl when I set you on fire.
Thich Quang Duc was protesting special rights for the few and no rights for the many… not unlike the 99%.

Not even close to OWS.
op fail. OWS was a success. the goal of OWS was never to solve the problem overnight, but simply let the problem be known to everyone else.
So, now that everyone knows about it (still not sure what “it” is just like most people), what is the next step for OWS.
profit
Profit is “it?” That’s what they were protesting?

Setting yourself on fire is hardly “peaceful”. Ever see something burn in real life?
“Oooooo Pretty Light”
Provoking the police? Is this what you mean by “provoking”?
