100% agree, it was a pretty good movie up until this part, not overly remarkable but not too bad either. And then the girlfriend crushing tentacle blob monster came along. Turned it off, never watched it again, and don’t get me wrong I’m not an anime hater, in fact I quite like it, but this? over rated shit.
The manga was less disappointing than the anime, but not by much (and yeah, I hated it when Kaori got squished.)
In both cases, though, the first 2/3-3/4 of the story was pretty damned riveting.
It is important for a number of reasons, which means that most discussions about anime as a medium will reference it on one point or another. The quality of the artwork and animation is objectively superior to most of its contemporaries. It also succeeds independently as a film, and not just an adaptation of a manga, despite a rather (in my opinion) drawn-out climax. It’s not surprising that you found it “overrated.” Given how important it is to the genre, it’s hard not to have it built up to the point where it can’t help but disappoint when you finally get around to watching it. But whether you like it or not, the people who make the anime that you do like very probably draw at least some of their inspiration from the manga and film.
Oh I’m sorry, I had an opinion, like I said I quite liked the first little while of the film, the psychic powers etc was pretty damn interesting, and then they just turned it into a stereotypical tentacle film, fuck a few more slips here and there and it would have been hentai.
And actually the first Pokemon film was pretty well done, you know, for pokemon
what radiation does to the japs

Most overrated anime/manga ever.
