Total War: Shogun 2 is a strategy computer game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It is the latest installment in the Total War series and returns to the 16th century Japan setting of the first Total War game, Shogun: Total War, after a series of games set mainly in Europe. The game was released on 15 March 2011.
Shogun 2 received critical praise from reviewers. Particular areas praised include the simplification and refinement of the series by returning to its roots.
tl;dr
“I played this game cause I’m asian”
Hah!
As a gamer, I have to point out that game is a piece of shit. Random battle maps? What the hell? No modification abilities? Assholes. Simplicity? Makes it boring. And to be honest I just don’t care about pre-modern Japan.
tl;dr
“I don’t like this game because I’m not japenese”
I guess some people just can’t handle games for adults. You know, games that actually require thinking?
And pre-modern Japan is awesome. Modern Japan is a pussyfied country. Feudal Japan was motherfuckin’ badass.
This is pertinent to my interests.
I clocked up a few hundred hours on medieval two, there were some shit bugs but the campaign was superb. I jumped for joy when I saw this and thought FUCK YEA cavalry that doesnt walk side by side 10 feet behind when “attacking” – new AI/faster fights – all true…
But I got bored quick… the movement is too fast (unless you have an area well scouted you suddenly see an army come in from no where and get all the way to your base) and the production rate too slow, you essentially hop between bases with 6-7 units because they sent their 4-5 units away to attack, you waste their 2 unit defense and re-enforce with 3-4 bow units – 2 units of samuri will stop 5 units of spearmen getting over the wall. You build a lot of trade ships asap and land them on the foreign trade hubs. You win. Every army’s units are similar – this isnt a huge fault but it doesnt really make me want to try other armies.
Conversley the enemy goes 4vs1 on you and out numbers your main army early on and you loose.
I might give it another try, but got plenty of other stuff to go at for now so it may be a while.
It’s technically good, but I just plain prefer medieval 2.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking of getting it, but…
Liked Medieval. Really like the original Shogun.
Unfortunately the AI has been very weak throughout the entire franchise.
The AI in fights is good in this to be honest, decent improvement – I didnt put a ton of hours in but honestly the battle ai is better – theres still enough to piss you off but non of the “walk at the side 5 feet behind” when attacking shit that seemed to be rampant in medi/rome (didnt do napolean/empire, hate the era)
I think they patched out a bug where the enemy leaves a unit behind and theres a high chance of it being near trees (i.e. hidden), so you have to leave your base and explore the entire map for them. But that was irritating.
Depending on your financial situation, and considering an FPS can last you a week, I’d say its worth the $25/30 for 3-4 weeks worth if you liked the others – but like I say, no urge to play it after a short while.
