It definitely worked, but the more times I clicked the less surprising the concept was.
You start on a page for a specific thing, and slowly work your way through more and more abstract things until you arrive at philosophy – which is the contemplation of the very foundation and basis of… THINGS.
Neat trick, though. It makes you take a little time out and think for a minute; that alone is time well spent.
Example for Reference:
Dildo – Sex Toy – Human Sexual Activity – Sexuality – Sex – Biology – Natural Science – Science – Knowledge – Fact – Information – Sequence – Mathematics – Quantity – Property – Modern Philosophy – Philosophy.
It does work if you follow the rules as XKCD gave them:
“Wikipedia trivia: if you take any article, click on the first link in the article text not in parentheses or italics, and then repeat, you will eventually end up at “Philosophy”.” www.xkcd.com/903/
Behold: Kevin Bacon -> Golden Globe -> Hollywood Foreign Press Association -> organization -> social group -> social sciences -> fields -> academic -> community -> interacting -> causal -> events -> philosophy.
Wow, I didn´t know.. fascinating

try from there. “totally” works
rotfl
YES! 23 steps, but yes 🙂

I’m gonna search Wikipedia for the Dildo entry now!
you started with dildo?
Oh you. Long Binh Fail – Long Binh – District 9 – Districs of Vietnam – Vietnam – Indochina – List of peninsulas – Landform – Earth science – Science – Knowledge – Fact – Information – Sequence – Mathematics – Quantity – Property(philosophy) – Modern philosophy – …
damn yo.
It suddenly becomes clear to me why so many of the great philosophers were mathematicians, as well. I guess Plato had a good point…
Also works on any Internet argument.
Totally works. I notice fictional characters tend to follow the same pattern.
Jar Jar Binks > Character > Representation > Semantics > Meaning > Linguistics > Human > Exact Taxon > Biology > Natural Science > Science > Knowledge > Fact > Reality > Philosophy.
Matter Eater Lad > Character > Representation > Semantics > Meaning > Linguistics > Human > Exact Taxon > Biology > Natural Science > Science > Knowledge > Fact > Reality > Philosophy.
I wouldn’t say everything leads to philosophy so much as everything leads to science.
science originated from philosophy
Got to modern philosophy from a featured article about Gianni Schicchi.
15 steps from MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade. I really didn’t see that happening.
Not only does it seem to reach there, but there seems to be a very similar chain leading right to it at the end of each sequence.
And Philosophy itself will lead you to an endless loop.
Kevin Bacon -> Animal House -> Comedy Film -> Film -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device -> Recording -> Data Storage Device ->
//Disproof
Got an extra Recording in there, but you get my point.

OK, then start at Recording.
Indeed, it doesn’t work from there. But at least now we know that Bacon dóes lead to philosophy.
I tried four, failed each time, got bored, came back here.
M[C]S: More interesting than Wikipedia.
WRONG!!!! Try this one:
Flower Bloom Flower
yep, they just keep linking back to each other. There is no philosophy for flowers. Poor flowers 🙁
grrr it took out my arrows that pointed flower to bloom to flower *angry face*
