Something that has always occurred to me is how crappy the Stormtrooper uniforms would be in reality.
Yeah they look cool, but they provide no camouflage and all that armor doesn’t seem to protect them from anything. Wearing something like that in any environment except for snow is basically like holding a neon sign over your head that says SHOOT ME PLEASE.
I think it’s funny that the only real battle they win is the one battle where they happen to have the appropriate camo. In every other battle they seem about as useful as a bag full of dog testicles.
In the first movie, Han Solo chases them around. Every single character with a gun manages to kill a stormtrooper. C3P0 could accidental kill a battalion by dropping a gun.
Then in the Empire Strikes Back they beat the good guys easily. I know that someone might say they were supported by a bunch of giant robots an shit, but that didn’t make a difference in Return of the Jedi. The Ewoks took out those thing with logs. LOGS. Try the same thing against a tank, then send you next of kin to tell me how it worked out.
I know Lucas and Co. didn’t think about it this much, most likely. The plot called for the Empire to win on Hoth, so they did. The fact that they happened to have slightly more appropriate camo is a isn’t a coincidence.
Even though I doubt it was intentional, I tend to think about the logic behind why the Stormtroopers were so crappy. I picture the Empire being run by a bunch of cronies who are only in their positions because of their political connections, not their abilities. All they would no how to do is throw bodies at a threat until they win by shear numbers.
Sure there are a few brains, but they are the exception, not the rule.
I look at it like this: they’re a mass produced symbol of the Empire. They were probably meant to be that way on purpose. It’s sort of like they were trying to say “it doesn’t matter how good you are, or how many stormtroopers you kill, there will always be more, and you can never win.”
Just Snowtroopers.

Yeah. The Empire seems to operate with an “intimidation through numbers/size” mentality.
