I wouldn’t say I was owned, we just have difference of opinion. My opinions are based on fact and observation and his opinions are based on Star Trek reruns.
“Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.”
Looking at this, it just makes it even more clear that the idea that there’s no other life out there is just absolutely ludicrous. It may be to distant to ever reach us, but I have no doubt that there’s not only life out there, but a LOT of worlds with intelligent life.
The Kepler survey so far has lowered the estimate for potentially inhabited worlds by at least an order of magnitude. Observations of many distant galaxies indicates that most of the universe is inhospitable to life due to intense radiation that would destroy any chemical bonds faster than they could form. Every advancement in observation for the last 30 years has actually lowered the probability of finding life, let alone advanced intelligent life. I’m kind of sorry to destroy everyone’s Star Trek dreams, but all the actual evidence is starting to point to the very real possibility that we are the only intelligent life in the universe.
Size matters not. Those are all just balls of burning gas. In terms of complexity, the brain is still the most amazing thing in the known universe.
Except we know very little about the known universe and even our oceans for that matter in the bigger scheme of things.
oh span, P.H.d guy just got owned by beach bum.

Sorry puul, that was a good one.
Hey, OP, are you trying Total Perspective Vortex on me?

The probability is either 0 or 1. I’d like it to be 1, but think it’s prolly 0.
Thanks dr.buzz kill
Pfft. I’ve seen bigger… like for instance, your mom.
