Exactly. You wouldn’t let her hang out with a tiger even if there has been exposure since birth. This isn’t much safer. Orangutans might be generally less aggressive than chimps (like the one who tore limbs off his victim and got her on Oprah) but if this guy gets a bad smell and confuses the girl for another orangutan it just might go apeshit.
I’ll contest this statement…
Chimps and orangutans are massively different. Orangutans are naturally loving and nuturing animals, and are also almost completely herbivoric. Chimps on the other hand kill and maim for fun.
I do not think theres any real danger here, orangutan babies are no different then ares beyond the mere physical differences, He would probably see her as a sibling if they’ve been together for a while (how old are they? 3?). She’s in as much danger as hanging out with a 10 y.o. Greek boy with down syndrome.
PS. I’m jealous of this girl too, i wish i had an ape sibling
Hippos are herbivores, too, and the most dangerous animals in Africa.
The fact is, this is a wild animal, not a kitty. If it thinks it is threatened, it is very capable of defending itself. They are particularly strong and are strong willed if they focus on something they want. They can be very destructive as they search for food items or play.
Perhaps not as dangerous as a chimp or a gorilla, but certainly dangerous to seriously injure a child.
Exotic animals as pets are a bad idea for many reasons.

Monkeys creep the fuck out of me
If there’s monkeys creeping out of you, I might suggest a cleansing diet with more fiber, and a colonic. Also, don’t eat so many bananas.
