    Fun fact: Samurai kept young boys around for sex play, as they ranked higher in social status than women and, as such, were considered more honorable for a good samurai to be poking.

    Fun Fact: This is the same time when it was okay to marry an underage girl. Ten was breedin’ age back then.

    Fun Fact: During the same time, arranged marriage were common, and women had little choice in the matter.

    Fun Fact: 99% percent of the past was a terrible time to be a woman.

    Fun Fact: The Japanese caste system was fairly oppressive in general. Samurai had a license to kill at will anyone who was beneath their class.

    I have to admit, I was having less fun with each fact. 🙁

    However, if you like Samurai (and who doesn’t?), I recommend everyone read Cloud of Sparrows by Takashi Matsuoka.

    And I’m not just picking on Samurai. They aren’t the only people who were far less noble and romantic as they are portrayed in the media.

    European Knights were generally dirt bags who killed and raped for money. American cowboys were no better.

    Yeah, the fictional versions are much more fun.

    And I like Samurai stuff too. Always been a fan of Blade of the Immortal and Lone Wolf and Cub.
