What’s with all the satchels? Is he carrying the whole squad’s gear? I understand as a sniper your job is to hunker down and discard anything interfering with your riflery, but my gods that’s a lot of little packs to be marching around with!
I think he’s got the weapon propped on his backpack. He’s got a couple of small packs on his LCE, I don’t know what’s in the one on his right side or his butt pack. On his right, there is a MRE, Kevlar helmet, goggles (in the black), what looks to be a NVG mount, and I don’t know what is in the right-most pack. On his left side he has a anti-tank weapon and binos. Minus the anti-tank weapon, that’s pretty standard load. Stuff like the AT-4 gets distributed among the squad, on a rotational basis unless you have a noob, so it may just be his time to carry it.
Realized the acronyms could be a little obscure after I posted the above.
LCE = vest with all the loops and hooks to attach ammo packs, etc.
MRE = meal, ready to eat. Tan plastic bag.
NVG = night vision goggles.
AT-4 = fairly close range anti-tank “missile”
OK, if history (or hollywood, take your pick) has taught us anything, look for the highest hill, tallest tree, bell tower, or grassy knoll. There’s your sniper. Then nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
