The remake actually has characters instead of simply plot devices. The one guy the German version actually explored was some loser who was saving up for a Ferrari. That’s as much depth as any character in that version had and it was widely criticized for it.
The American version is an enormous improvement but its socially required to hate any remake. Which is more stupid than some of the remakes.

What does everyone have against remakes? I’ll grant that many (maybe even most) suck, but that’s true of all genres of movies in general.
