I just don’t care about dolphins. I don’t think they’re particularly smart or special. Pigs are surprisingly smart animals too, smarter than dogs even, but I don’t feel bad about eating bacon, either.
I’m not overly fond of dolphins either, but to treat any animal so callously bothers me. I really think there is something wrong w/ people that can ignore the obvious pain and torture of an animal. I realize I’m a bit hypocritical because I have no problem eating bacon either, though I do buy my meat from farmers that don’t keep the animals in cages.
I am also a big fan of animals. In fact I generally like animals more than I do humans, and so I truly hate to see animals treated with needless cruelty. However I also do not believe there is any hypocrisy in eating and using animal products, so long as the animals are treated ethically/humanely.
The nature of life is such that every organism will eventually die, and other organisms live off them once they do. Humans are no exceptions to the rule. To somehow say humans are above this simply on account of (for the most part) greater intelligence, is deeply flawed logic.
The best that any living thing can ask for is that it lives with as little needless suffering as possible. But even in nature, that is not always possible.
I don’t know if I’d say it’s near non-existent. Many animals get to lead full, relatively painless lives in the wild. Animals generally do not subject each other to needless suffering like humans do. There are certainly acts of nature that can cause suffering, but no intentional acts of aggression against others just because they can.
I suppose that’s what I was trying to say…
Dolphins are the only other mammal apart from humans that rape. Little groups of male dolphins will go around and herd out the weakest female from pods, and gang rape her. Watched a show on it once and they were playing the distressed noises the female dolphin was making. They weren’t so majestic then, just another step closer to being human.

Fuck dolphins. Goddamned grey skinned sea-niggers.
