I attended UBCON XXI this weekend. It’s a huge gaming convention with all the usual stuff… Card games, board games, LARPS, RPGs, Nerf War, cosplay, etc. I was there vending my Geek Reek candles & soaps, so most of my time was spent in the dealer’s room. I did manage to sneak out & get a few shots of the activities.

If it makes you feel better, aside from the board game, RPG & boffer-war nerds, there was also a room full of people playing video games.

zilch, I was in nerd heaven. I haven’t been to a con in like 15 years.
The game you asked about is called Amputheater. It’s a hand-crafted arena battle with unique characters. Each figure is hand made with pipe cleaners & other bits. The arms & heads are removable for battle damage (revealing a bright red pipe cleaner stub beneath) and there are flaming heads you can swap out if your character becomes immolated. Felt blood puddles eventually fill the arena as the game progresses. I didn’t get a chance to play, but I watched quite a bit of it. It’s pretty fantastic. The creator is a great guy, too.

You can buy the figs off of the guy for $10-$50 each. Expensive, but one-of-a-kind. He sells the rules online, and I think he sells the boards, too.

The big board game is The War Game: WWII. It’s fricking huge. That particular game lasted an entire day, I believe.
