Oop, figured it out. Walled city was ancient Chinese military fort. The Chinese said that they would reclaim it, so squatters arrived, knowing that no one would purchase property where they knew the Chinese government would take over when they regained Hong Kong. Squatters turned into low-lifes which turned into the Triad gangs. In 1993 the government forceably evicted everyone and tore the place down. Tax incentive plans were set up for construction within the confines of the area for urban revitalization purposes, which is why the construction is so thoroughly square.
My name is Guillermo Dochao Naveira and I’m an architecture and engineering student at the University of Sheffield.
I am currently writing an essay for “Scroope”, the Cambridge University journal for the Architecture Department.
In my essay I make a reference to the Kowloon Walled City (as an extreme example of dense urbanization).
I am writing this email to ask for permission to use the aerial photo of the Kowloon Walled City, as a visual example for what is written in the essay. “My[confined]Space” would be recognized and thanked for in the journal. I hope it is not a problem to give me this permission; the photo is a perfect example for my essay.
where is the wall?
Huh, it looks like it was walled at some time, then either the wall was taken down, or the city expanded beyond it (uniformly?). Weird.
I’m guessing there is a regulation banning construction of many-storied buildings past a certain zoning line.

Crazy Chinese.

WE ARE THE BORG. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. YOUR BIOLOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS WILL BE ADDED TO OUR OWN. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.
Better hope like hell that there`s no fires in that mess.
So this is what Wall-e has been.
Jackie Chan´s Crime Story Film was filmed there.
