The anonymous nature of the internet allows people to voice silently held opinions without fear of real world repercussions. For example a person on the internet who is an atheist yet they regularly attend church or other religious ceremonies for fear of a defamed character in a largely religious community and as such do not publicly voice their opinion in the real world.
Thus they must be combated with opposition so the world can see them for who they truly are. This is beyond something as simple as religion and atheism as well. This can apply to everything from racism to partisan politics.
