BUT THAT WOULD IMPLY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO BE INFORMED AND MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEMSELVES! Seriously though, i still can’t believed that i was once arrested for carrying a small bag of plants that causes me to find the flintstones remarkably funny.
Advil kills more people than marijuana. Sure, people have died while under the influence, but they were 99.99+% of the time also drinking or doing something else. Confounds, causation, correlation, etc.
Legalizing and taxing marijuana (which honestly wouldn’t net *that* much revenue – I can’t see dealers filling out tax returns for it) would save us enough federal and state dollars to get a lot of states out of the hole.
Oh, well. The United States is nothing if not a land of tradition, desperately grasping at anything (like 40 years of ex-Confederate soldiers calling themselves cowboys) to make up for our lack of long term cultural history. One 1930’s law is now considered the only way to do things, classifying it as a Schedule 1 narcotic with heroin & mescaline. Cocaine is only Schedule 2!
Paul, The scheduling system is a mess, but schedule 1s have no acknowledged medical use. Mescaline fits here, heroin does sort of, since we have better opiate pain killers, but mj is probably going to move down the list soon. Schedule 2s have some medical use, and cocaine is an excellent local anesthetic, so it fits there.
.What this fails to correlate is that at $446.81 dollars spent fighting it every second and at 1 arrest every 38 seconds, that’s $16,978.78 for every arrest, most of which are for simple possession. In most places, simple possession is a fine of UP TO $100. Nice job, guys. And we wonder why we’re in debt up to our eyeballs.

What dealers? If hemp was legalized as a smokable drug (like tobacco) it would be available for sale at a much lower price for much higher quality in commercial establishments.
Also, hemp would be a cheap, environmentally safe source of fuel, plastics, paper, fabric and fibers. It would be an amazing boost for the economy.
No.
I work with the general, mid-to-povery level public and, quite frankly, you people are clueless, ignorant enough assholes when you’re sober. I can’t imagine giving/retrieving information from you when every third one of you is legally stoned outta your currently useless mind. I couldn’t get a damn to give about the economy, or taxes, the miracle properties of hemp, or any other dickish reasons you can muster. You and your bongs al toker, billy bong thornton, wesley pipes need to keep that shit where it belongs: on your couch in your basement.
Should you get 10 years for a dimebag? Not at all.
Should you be lighting up on the street? Not at all.
Should you be calling me while high? No. My database has your address and I will find you.
there are two sides to this:
one one side, its bad enough that the US govt taxes the crap out of everything, now they have to add a ‘retarded stoner tax’
however
on the other side, the stoners that at least have a 2nd brain cell will get tired of paying tax on their habit and some of them will actually quit
@bstaples
Ack, my empathy to you.
So we revise the rule. Everyone can legally smoke pot except people on welfare.
They`ll still need to get it on the street.
Causality, correlation. I suggest you learn the difference. Blaming people of those lower incomes for being stupid on using marijuana is like blaming them for being stupid on locking themselves out of the house. They were already stupid to begin with. The second part just exasperated the situation.
the fines, and what not listed would just go else where..if marijuana was legalised, and taxed, then drug dealers, would be getting charged for illegal sales(non taxed)…growing would have to be monitored in order to keep the government happy they are getting there fair share of taxes…which in turn is going to make taxes rise to cover the salaries for people doing those government jobs, not to mention crime, and poverty is likely to rise, since simple street dealers will be losing money, causing them to do other things to make up for the lost income…
so are you willing to pay probably quadruple the amount you pay now, for government taxed marijuana?
the people for this, need to do alot more research before jumping on the bandwagon for it…find out the price of cigarettes, and alcohol before the government taxes it..maybe check on the laws for selling untaxed alcohol, and compare them to a simple possession charge…
therein lies part of the beauty of it,…if drug dealers are forced to commit other crimes, then they step into other areas of law and get arrested for them
people may bitch and whine about “why arrest stoners” but if said stoners commit robberies, they go to jail for that,..muggings too, and if they break into people’s homes then i think in most US states the homeowners can shoot to injure or kill (depending on state) with the ones allowing one to kill an intruder being the best way to end the stoners crime streak
I take it you’ve never been to Amsterdam. It’s taxed there, and you can get an 8th for about €5. That’s roughly $8 American. You see, there’s this thing called supply & demand. Supply for marijuana is low, believe it or not, and demand is high. There’s also a relative lack of price competition, due to lack of advertising & easy access due to… I don’t know… being illegal.
Remember the American prohibition? Guess what? Alcohol prices soared. Don’t claim to be the unrecognized scholar without doing a little critical thinking yourself as well.
“…if drug dealers are forced to commit other crimes…”
O_o WTF?
Learn to argue. What conditions are forcing them to commit other crimes? What does this have to do with legalization? I honestly have no idea what you’re trying to say, as I can see your gibberish being both pro- and anti- legalization.
well of course im fully against stoners, but if the act of decriminalizing marijuana leads to dealers losing their power base, and having to commit other crimes then it works out in the long run
personally i think all dealers should be shot, but since only asian countries execute dealers, the western world has to find alternatives
the current one being rob dealers of their power, wait for them to commit other crimes, then crack down on them without mercy
i guess you havent heard Amsterdam is also trying to stop tourist from being able to purchase marijuana…something must be up for them to want to do that, isnt that one of the things that brings tourist to Amersterdam? By the way, what is the tax in Amsterdam on cigarettes, alcohol, wages, and what not? is it comparable to the taxes in the United States? Im guessing you did not research that either.
Yes most drug dealers will be looking else where for the lost income, hence more crime. The main reason they deal drugs, is the quick, and easy income. The economy is bad, finding a job is tough right now.
“Yes most drug dealers will be looking else where for the lost income, hence more crime.”
LOL.
That is… wow. Sorry, I guess I should have read the second part before responding. My mistake. I didn’t realize you were one of those people. I’ve sold pot. I now own my own business. My college roommate sold pot. He was head of the advertising team for Modern Warfare 2.
You’re right though, if we weren’t doing that, we probably would have beat up old ladies so we could have enough money to inject bleach into our balls. LMFAO. I seriously almost spit beer out my nose when I read that.
Now, you’ll have to excuse me. I’m going to go grind up some kittens and snort them. Heh.
BUT THAT WOULD IMPLY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO BE INFORMED AND MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEMSELVES! Seriously though, i still can’t believed that i was once arrested for carrying a small bag of plants that causes me to find the flintstones remarkably funny.
cheese and sugar kill more people that any drug

Hmmmm, it seems like the cost it takes to “TRY” to control pot is doing a lot more damage than if it were legal. Typical American logic.
Worse. I work for NYS Welfare Assistance.

Oh mah gawd, stoners! Can you point on the doll where they hurt you when you were young Kommi?
Doesn’t use. Wouldn’t use if it were legal. Thinks it’s just retarded to use tax dollars to keep these people in jail.
@... fracked again
Are you honestly saying there is no acknowledged medical use for marijuana? Seriously?

But have you paid taxes… on weed?
There wouldn’t be taxes on weed. They’d just get taxed like any other product. Everything you buy is taxed, from twinkies to books to booze.

Yes, Amsterdam is trying to stop tourists from being able to purchase marijuana… or, more correctly, the 3-5% of the population that moved there in the last 20 years on a crusade to end moral decay in Amsterdam. My fiancée is Swiss. I’m going back to Europe in less than a few weeks, and just like every trip, I’ll probably go to Amsterdam. There, like always, I’ll have the same experience, except for maybe that one lone person standing on the corner handing out flyers trying to criminalize marijuana in Amsterdam. The same lone person that everyone kind of looks at sadly.

try learning a little more about mescaline before you go running off saying it has no medical use.
