Granted I commend him for reaching the levels he has, but it’s just how smug he comes across. I can’t remember the last time I saw him perform that he didn’t get the audience to sing most of the song for him.
He has produced some great music, but he seems to think that anything he makes will automatically be gold. Rudebox anyone?
Can’t argue there. Robbie does come across as the smuggest ass on the planet.
And his last 2 albums do nothing for me. I am still not sure what kind of thinking puts Gandhi quotations into a crap Robbie Williams pop song.
However – I have seen him interviewed several times and he was awesome. Completely self deprecating and not the “worship me” ass I thought he would be.
Gotta be honest though – Liam Gallagher is my “smug asshole” comparison tool, so pretty much everyone else has a long way to go to even get a mention. Damn that guy is a fucking tool.
Agree fully on the Liam Gallagher point. You can’t sing, you can barely play the tamborine and your mother still cuts your hair. You are not a rock star.
I didn’t know who Robbie Williams was, so I bing’d him and liked Rock DJ and his version of My Way. Most of the other stuff (the six or so songs I listened to) didn’t do anything for me. Now I have to go look up Liam Gallagher.
Robbies most popular song was Angels. It made him a mege-super-whatever-star internationally… but I don’t recall that it was ever really played in the US.
I liked his version of Kids with Kylie Minogue. Simple song, but fun.
Oasis made a lot of good music… but their lead singer (Liam) has a serious God / asshole complex. He was in the news recently for arguing with his brother (lead guitar) and minutes before a show, smashing his guitar – causing the brother to quit the band on the spot. Legendary dickhead.
Karen- Love your blog. And LOVE these menus. I will try to recreate for my kids! Having spent some time in France myelsf, I’m trying to turn my kids into little francophiles too!
Douchebaggery personified.
Why do you say that?
I don’t think Robbie is great, but as an artist… I have heard much, much worse. Lady GaGa is still on the charts here in Germany. That is much worse.
And as for his quote… I have to say I agree.
“Follow your dreams” and “listen to your heart” – pure shit. Sounds nice, but really doesn’t mean anything. Hollow, lame advice.
For all I can tell, Hitler was following his dream and Pol Pot was following his.
So. What exactly is your problem with Robbie?

Exactly.
A few years back, he was in München (Munich) and making trouble. Lost some teeth in the process. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy.
I don’t particularly care for his music.

nyokki, he’s the lead singer of oasis. One of the decent Robbie Williams song is road to Mandalay.
