    This is from a popular but wordy comic. Forget the name. Wish I did. I think he also did Caveman Sci-Fi, which is practically a meme these days.

    Anyway…

    Peripeteia – Greek for reversal of fortune.

    Anagnorisis – Greek for recognition. In drama it means a sudden revelation.

    Petard Hoist – Taken from a phrase by Shakespeare. It essentially means to be harmed by one’s own plan.

    Reverse MacGuffin – Also known as Chekhov’s Gun. When something seemingly insignificant at the beginning becomes very important later on.

    Shyamalan should be obvious.

    Ditto for Deus Ex Machina.
