I saw this (or someone doing the exact same thing) in a photography magazine something like ten years ago — back when photoshop was a lot harder than it is today! Kudos to whomever did this.
I’m pretty sure that this was done with non-toxic, food-color-like, dye applied with an airbrush. I’ve seen cats and dogs also painted like this, although, this is the best example that I have seen.
I read that a Lebanon zoo had its Zebras killed in the war; as replacements were too expensive, they painted a couple of donkeys as in nyokki’s post. By the time people figured it out, they were so enamored with the ‘zonkies’ that they are kept painted.

What I meant to say was that they stapled a tan toilet seat cover onto a housecat and called it a Lion.
