This is a good picture. The citizens of the U.S. need to realize that war is a horrendous thing. If they saw the dead and injured that came back maybe they would be more weary of advocating war. This doesn’t even count the dead and injured on the other side.
That being said, this picture does make me feel sad.
What makes you think we don’t know that? More and more of us are coming to the opinion that the Iraqi war is bullshit that was justified by false information. If you’re thinking of the tea party people, they’re a small, vocal minority.
I’d love to see the US able to return to pre-WW1 foreign policy, but I doubt that’ll happen anytime soon. >_<

Kinda like how drunk driving causes people to crash & oftentimes in very horrendous accidents that kill innocent civilians, so we should make sure we show every single crash on TV to make sure we don’t promote that as well in the US, or even make it illegal! Wait, it already is.
That is retarded. Drunk driving and killing someone does not equate to soldiers willingly risking their lives for their country, right or wrong. Perhaps if everyone saw the very real consequences of the decision we made as a country, then perhaps we wouldn’t run headlong into a military solution every fucking time. Perhaps we wouldn’t have believed the lies if we didn’t love the idea of war so much. We gleefully through these guys at death.
Showing the body count in Vietnam on the evening news slowly but inexorably, turned Americans against the war. Showing the death toll is affecting American involvement in Afghanistan as well as Iraq. Hiding the truth, softening the blow, is not helping anyone.

Yeah, you have a point. Drunk driving analogy was a little off since drunk driving victims don’t have a choice. I guess we all forget we have a all volunteer military.

Then someone claimed that Iraq, which can just barely rise to the technical challenges involved in providing basic sanitation to its people and is filled with the sorts of dimwitted scientist who, if they tried to build a WMD, would only end up spilling a bucket of something nasty and poisoning themselves, was trying to build super-advanced weapons. And since one of these Iraqis once met with a guy who knew a guy who new the ones who attacked us, we had no choice to but attack Iraq. Also, as an afterthought, we sent some guys to Afghanistan. Then we found out that Iraq wasn’t developing evil weapons (duh), but we continued attacking them anyway. And when we were done we got a bunch of our people to help run the country, and we made sure that the people we sent over there to do this were loyal Republicans who loved Jesus, because in the end that’s all that’s really important. And so your Daddy died so that some poor Iraqis could one day dip their fingers in purple ink and pretend that they’re all Democratic. Now do you understand?”

It is a sad picture. My wife sent me that same bear while I was in iraq. It’s easy to picture myself in the coffin considering I’m headed to afghanistan soon. And to add one more comment on the opinions of the wars in afghanistand and iraq, I think regardless of how many people want one thing or another to happen, what matters is what the soldiers believe they are fighting for, and the fact that they are willing to do it even though they know that it could just as easily been them in that casket.
