As I recall, the 9/11 dollar was being advertised as “Authentic Liberian Currency”, hoping that the ‘Liberian’ part wouldn’t register with people. The silver (leaf) it was made out of might be worth more than its face value: $20 Liberian is worth $0.25 US, and silver is somewhere above $14 per ounce.
