This is true in every country I’ve ever lived in. I do agree that it is true less often in the US. I grew up in NYC and moved to West Virginia nearly eleven years ago. Everyone I meet asks me why I would such a thing. My answer? It’s easy. Land. I had no hope of actually owning a house in NYC, maybe a condo or something, but blech. So I move to a place where I can afford to but a house w/ 3400 sqft and almost 3 acres. I haven’t completely gone redneck; I’m w/in an hour of DC and Baltimore and I have family in NY that I visit several times a year.
I need health insurance No insurance; I die in less than a year w/out treatment. Every job hubby and I take is all about the bennies. I am frustrated by this. We’ve worked jobs we hate for it. What’s the point if you hate what you do? Hubby has given up much for me. Why should that be necessary?

Hitler really wasn’t a cool guy. Neither were his cronies.
Some people weren’t so bad…speer, eichmann – caused a lot of crap, but those were really mostly just the wrong people in the wrong places. The big dudes though were pathetic, embarrassing failures.
That said, I find it a certificate of political and cultural poverty that bush was able to finish (and even have) a second term in office despite having been proven a liar to his people.
