I remember this promo pic coming out around the time of the initial release of RotJ. There was never any such moment in the film, of course (unless something\’s been unearthed on the DVD\’s and I missed it).
Pity –I loved this ship\’s design, and it would\’ve been a cool scene.
I’m such a fucking nerd, and I love star wars, but how the fuck do those land!?!
The B-Wing’s smaller wings fold inward and it lands horizontally. The cockpit is also gyro-stabilized so it will remain “upright” regardless of how the rest of the ship is turning/spinning/etc.
For the record, the B-Wings were in a few Battle of Endor scenes but they were mostly cut cause they filmed poorly due to their thinness.
Also, these were the shit in the X-Wing vs Tie Fighter games.
God I miss those games. I’d love to see them remastered.
There are still a few of these in the movie.
Geeks
Would love to see those game remastered myself. The image above was also used on a kenner flyer advertising it’s ROTJ range. However it had the kenner toy superimposed over the top of the actual film B-Wing, Awsome ship you just don’t see enough.
I’d love to see the X-Wing vs Tie Fighter remade, but even moreso, I’d love to see the Tie Fighter games remade. That was a blast, playing for the badguys, with a decent story about making a new fighter superior to anything the rebellion had. (TIE Defender I think it was called).
Zasz post facts
RSIxidor Lies. B-wings were shit; Y-wings were where it was at. If you could pilot; B-wings were for cowards who needed to much armor/shields.
Fail.
The b-wing is the successor to the y-wing. The y-wing was the original “bomber” for the RA. The b-wing was developed as a response to the “newer” more powerful capital ships (star destroyers). The b-wing was designed specifically to take these ships head on.
quote:
“The B-wing carried an unusually high payload for its size, due to its designation as an assault fighter. As originally designed, the B-wing carried three ion cannons, two proton torpedo launchers, one laser cannon, and two auto-blasters. Most B-wings had their two auto-blasters replaced with laser cannons to improve survivability and firepower, though some B-wings had four auto-blasters. The B-wing was originally designed with a unique fire-control system which fires low-power lasers at a target to give the computer range and vector information for the torpedoes and ion cannons.
While its strong deflector shields and great firepower allowed it to be somewhat survivable in fighter engagements, it usually required an escort on the way in. However, with the firepower of many naval corvettes, it fulfilled its purpose as a dangerous foe against many light capital ships.”
Know your star wars or stfu.
