Yuck. I used to know a girl who said she liked Dream Theatre… she lied to impress me and seem “edgy” of cool or something… I found out pretty quick she’d barely listened through one song though… She was also one of the most obscenely horrible people I’ve ever met… I have never been able to stomach their music since.
I’ll give this album a miss xD
Love this album. It was leaked a few weeks ago, and I just had to get it. Planning on buying it when it actually comes out I like it so much 😀
Best studio album they’ve done since ‘6 Degrees…’. Bought the 3-CD set and it’s great.
Incredible album is incredible. I ended up ordering the Deluxe Edition Box Set, and am nowhere near disappointed with it.
The packaging = outstanding
The music = Blew my mind. This album is in my top 3 DT albums.
The design for the digipack = Fuckin Fail.
Horrible album is horrible!!! Srsly… Petrucci’s solos are nothing new or amazing on this album. Some of Portnoy’s drum licks don’t go well with the guitar. Myung is practically mixed out so you can barely hear him. At several points there’s these strange cookie monster vox from Portnoy that clash. LaBrie sounds like a wailing cat, as usual….
Nothing new or impressive. And what’s with the Shattered Fortress???? More like “this isn’t a new song, we’re just copying parts of our old songs line for line and changing the lyrics”. Complete ripoff. It was cool when they referenced old songs once in a while, but an entire song composed of snippets from prior albums? That’s just lazy.
Only album I’ve completely loved has been “Awake”.
Shattered Fortress <— loved that song, knew every piece of it the first time i herd it, just awesome how portnoy glued 10 yrs of music into one song!!
pfffff. Either you aren’t a musician, or you can’t comprehend the fact that it’s not a new song. It is in no way impressive to cut and paste pieces of music you’ve already written into one “new” song. It’s about as difficult as completing a 100 piece puzzle.
I know I sure didn’t buy their cd with only 6 songs on it to have one of them be snippets from songs I’ve already heard and purchased.
Reflecting on prior pieces for nostalgic value is one thing (which is what they used in some songs off of Scenes From a Memory)but this song’s garbage. Same songs, new title.
