A Hispanic-themed Walmart. (sauce)
There are two trial locations, one in Phoenix, AZ, and this one in Houston, TX at Long Point and Wirt in Spring Branch.
I did not go inside b/c my friend (Teutonic Logic) told me they only speak Spanish in there and I\’m not that good with the language!
(A Google Image search (with the headline of this post) won\’t even pull up an image like this on the first page, so you\’ve probably seen it here FIRST if you haven\’t seen one in person.)(sorry it was a gloomy day…)
What in hell. I’m sorry but if you move to a country you should learn to speak it’s language. Which means no signs in half English/spanish. If you want to be successful in the US learn English.
There is no way they don’t have English speaking employees. I think your friend was joking. I live in a heavily Hispanic neighborhood, and even the roughest small family-owned grocers (re: TaquerÃa) here have bilingual staff.
I was about to say this is probably in Mexico, but the one visible license-plate does look Texan.
The idea that they don’t speak English is just silly. The idea that they speak poor English is possible.
its funny i was in mexico and they have straight up Walmart there.
@...ogie: There are parts of Mexico that are fully Americanized. The big touristy spots where all the gringos are moving in.
Mmmmmm Jarittos. That Walmart better have those killer Mexican Sodas by the name of Jarittos.
@...ogie:
I knew this and I still said that it might be in Mexico.
@...Puulaahi:
The Walmarts I’ve known in Mexico were not really all that American. Walmart (supposedly) has a way of knowing whats selling really well and what sells like shit at a particular location (its called inventory management or something like that) so what would sell here doesn’t sell there.
It’s not like Walmart really sells anything made in America anymore anyway.
Who 5’d this? >:|
I have nothing against “Mexicans” as a culture.
I work with 2 Mexicans with heavy accents. Older ones. Very nice, very good workers.
On the other hand, I don’t like the filth that the culture allows to breed all over the city I live in that is supposed to be the capital of Silicon Valley and the 10th largest city in the United States.
There are Supermercado’s (with out the de walmart) all over by where I work in MI, although they are not anywhere as new looking as this is. They are all run down old shops. And all they speak is spanish.
i’m mexican (you must know it because my shitty english) and i think it’s stupid that the employees only speak spanish, i think it’s a joke
@...Puulaahi:
Jarritos my friend =] not Jarittos
@...RSIxidor: They are in Mexico. Of course they aren’t run the same. I am sure you can find Costco, Starbucks and Denny’s probably too.
@...miikee90: I doubled the t’s when I should have doubled the r’s. 🙂
A one stop shop for INS….
I have no problems with Mexicans.
Just Aliens.
(regardless of color)
And Drug runners
(regardless of color)
@...casemods: Careful, theres a mexican in the room.. lol.

There is an AmeriCAN flag on the front of the building in the first picture…. so Im guessing its in America

@...njch412: Kinda the point.
i am tired of having to press 1 or 2 to continue in english. i have no problem with immigrants or aliens as long as they come in the legal way. it is the illegals that get citizen benifits like drivers licenses and voting that pisses me off. amnesty for illegals??? HELL NO, give them a meal, a shot of pennicilin and a bus ride back to where they fuckin came from. bottom line, if you enter illegally you get kicked out. if you enter my house with out permission i can put a bullet in your ass, in my opinion illegal aliens are damn lucky they dont get the same treatment. also, those pirates off the horn should all get bullets too. i don’t care what motivates you to piracy, enough start getting shot and their numbers will dwindle.
sorry about the rant but that is my humble opinion. if you don’t like it then tough shit.
This is no different from the WalMart I shop at already…
@...rebel4309:
how stupid do you have to be to not know that you can just ignore the press 1 or 2 thing and eventually an operator will pick up?
also, irish need not apply.
@...rebel4309:
I don’t think a driver’s license is a citizen’s right. In fact most states require a SSN, but also most have an exception clause that allows the ITIN or foreign consular ID to be used in its place. Denying a driver’s license is a danger to our safety (if they can’t pass our test, they shouldn’t drive, but they do anyway because they have to work), and increases the number of uninsured drivers. The immigrants who do not have a DL or insurance who are still driving just aren’t trying hard enough to be here. I do have a problem with those kinds of individuals.
I’m with you on the voting though, definitely. Definitely.
Wait. I live in the same area as casemods? Oh noes.
But I do have to say that I agree with him… that the hispanic community typically has lower expectations for their quality of life, which makes sense considering what they put up with before they moved here, but the effects on the areas they move into is pretty frustrating.
The Wal-Mart near my house is largely in spanish anyway… some of the items I’ve seen don’t have english on them. I don’t see the point of putting a special sign on the store.
@...rebel4309: Why would you bother apologizing only to say tough shit?
I live in Houston/Pasadena, can we also get a store catering to the few white people left in town? ya know, twinkies.. cheese.. pizza??
And heres a link on it’s validity: walmartstores.com/FactsNews/NewsRoom/9106.aspx
Everyone is forgetting one very important thing here: Walmart is a horrible place to shop in any language.
@...Puulaahi: I thought that until I went to a super Wal-Mart in Austin, TX. I don’t know about you but when I’m poor (as I am now), having a place to go where I can buy food for 1/3 the price of anywhere else is a nice option. As it is, you couldn’t pay me to shop at Wal-Mart in San Jose. That’s a nightmare. If I lived in Texas, I might go there.
@...rebel4309: ok… i’m feel insulted
I work with and around many folks here in Houston. Alot of them are undocumented. Do I think they need to be here? No. They are a drain on what resources we have left. I DO understand why they are here, though. I would be, as well, considering the conditions they have to deal with back home. Bottom line is they are breaking the law. Unfortunately you can’t arrest them because, even though it’s a felony, it seems that no one wants to correct the situation. And that is an indictment on both sides.
also to add….I love carniceria’s…you get good chorizo and Cokes from Mexico…they use cane sugar still and it makes a big difference. I wonder if there is a good carniceria and panaderia in that store…
@...outofocus:
This is all about where the Wal-Mart is. Rural wal-marts that serve several small towns seem to be exceptionally clean. Austin also has a reputation for great stuff, so maybe that’s why that one was. Or maybe it was new. New Wal-Marts are awesome.
Wal-Marts that serve lower-income neighborhoods are disgusting, filthy, and disgusting. But you see a lot more ‘interesting’ looking people, so that parts fun. I don’t shop at Wal-Mart much anymore since they raised the price of Transformer’s Deluxe class to 12 fucking 88 from 7 fucking 77 out of fucking nowhere.
