Is anyone else excited that Blink 182 are going to release a new album?
Say what you will, but they laid the foundation for pop-punk throughout the late 90\’s and early 00\’s and didn\’t release an album after Dude Ranch that didn\’t get at least 4-5 singles on the airwaves.
In order for this forthcoming album to be epic, it will have to rival Green Day\’s American Idiot, which, to me, has been the best album in the genre since its release.
I don’t know if I’m excited, I’m afraid it won’t be that good. For some reason I don’t think they’ll be able to produce anything better than their old stuff.
Also, inb4 shitstorm.
Pop-Punk was laid down almost a decade before their breakthrough, Green Day being the perfect example. Just because it didn’t have pussy-whipped lyrics it didn’t make it any less pop-punk.
Blink 182 always felt like a sanitized version of pop punk to me. Say what you will, but Travis Barker trying to become a reality star just about cements them as “in it for the money.”
Anyone else remember when rebellion wasn’t commercialized, then toned down for the masses?
@...Paul_Is_Drunk:
Yeah definitely sanitised. But it can be good music still, and I’d be lying if I said that I never enjoyed listening to it with my non elitist ear.
“Anyone else remember when rebellion wasn’t commercialized, then toned down for the masses?”
I wasn’t even alive, whenever that was.
I blame Blink for ushering in the era of pansyrock we’re currently suffering through.
I agree with Paul (even though he’s drunk). I don’t like the fact that Pop is even followed by the word Punk. Green Day was atleast talented. Blink was kind of annoying and brought alot of posers into the genre. As in all my comments, this is my oppinion and if you like Blink, more power to ya. I just think they should ixnay the punk title. Maybe change it to Phunk (fake punk)
when i was younger this song was my fav./funny video from blink 182 www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDV4E9ldelM
if don’t think this cd will have to battle American Idiot. I think this cd will have to battle the new cd green day is releasing. it is going to be pretty big.
I don’t understand why everyone thinks that genres are so important. It’s not like real punk is any less punk because Blink 182 say they’re punk.
Genre elitists. It’s because of people like you that I don’t like to talk about metal with people.
okay last time.
fix this shit. if you take more than a minute to post (ie post anything worth while) this roped together piece of open source dogshit loses your message.
All future comments will be simply ‘suck my cock’.
No.

@...dieAntagonista: Blink 182 – All The Small Things
sucks for your internet location 🙂
@...ColombianMonkey: Good choice. It has nothing to do with my ‘Internet location’. It’s the fascists at my actual location. So there.
@...dieAntagonista: wrong, it’s the fascists who upload the video. they can say which country can view there video 😉
@...dieAntagonista:
it’s not so much elitism as it is fact. The whole point of the punk music was to be different and to NOT care what other people think and to NOT care what MTV and anyother major corporation thought about your music. It was more of a lifestyle than just a music genre. It has had ties with big record labels although. Either way punk is dead, When members of the Dead Kenedys are fighting over royalties you know it is dead.
@...ColombianMonkey: I know, I just enjoy blaming the fascists in my country for things they haven’t done.
@...thelotuseater725:
I agree with everything you said. Except that it’s in fact elitist. People don’t just state facts for the most part, they whine and moan and ridicule you if you use the wrong term for whatever music you happen to like. It’s ridiculous and I’m not impressed with bullshit like that.
Yeah I know Blink 182 are too MTV and whatnot, but their music is still nice to listen to. Whether it’s punk or not really doesn’t matter.
so what exactly did they lay the ground for??? even more talentless clowns that try to call themselves musicians.
@...dieAntagonista: Punk is… well, WAS a movement. It was a response to the ego-driven and growingly pompous music put out by baby boomers, and their very hypocritical nature. (The hippies are the same ones that voted Reagan into office).
There was post-punk as early as the ’80s. Then Green Day, a band I enjoy but wouldn’t call punk (alternative, really), was the first ‘punk’ band to be signed to a major label. It was selling out, back when that meant something.
It’s not ‘genre elitism;’ It’s pointing out that people are using the term wrong. Like people who use ‘per se’ to mean ‘exactly,’ when it really means ‘in itself.’
Of course, the term has different meanings depending on the context. When I play guitar with someone, I’ll use ‘punk’ in the context of four on the floor with all down strokes. That’s not punk, but a distillation of the methods used by early punks to play music.
@...mAgnUS BUTTfoorson:
suck my cock
The genre that both Blink and Green Day are a part of is limited and is kinda stagnant atm. The most significant recent advance was American Idiot and I’m pretty sure it’s pushed the shallow genre of “pop punk” as far as it can go. Anyway, Green Day came before Blink, thus Green Day > Blink.
Also I agree with whoever said Punk is dead. Most music about now is forgetable crap (although I guess it’s been like that since the 60s). For every Beatles or Led Zep there are a hundred…other bands from their time which I don’t know about, which is kinda my point.
@...dieAntagonista:

Mexican Pirate?
@...Paul_Is_Drunk:
Haha thanks, I do know what Punk is.:p
I was being sarcastic. But yea, I was born in 1989 so obviously I have never seen any of that.
Again, people don’t just point out facts, they point their fingers at you and call you a disgrace for listening to whatever music they don’t agree with.
It has become a pain in the ass to talk to people about almost any kind genre. I haven’t watched TV or listened to the radio in years, but I still have people claiming that I’m brainwashed by both. Elitist elitist elitist.
@...dieAntagonista: to me talking to someone about my music is like talking to a Christian about Atheistism. that’s why i don’t usually share my music thoughts with people. unless they can respectively have an open mind about music.
@...ColombianMonkey:
Ah don’t I know it. But I like to discuss it anyway. I guess I’m masochistic in that sense. And the Christian comparison was really bad. I would have said, trying to talk about white people with Caio (I miss Caio).
I love this band. I creamed when they announced they were back together.
mmmmm
Punk, the music genre, is not dead.
Punk, the no-holds-barred mentality is dead.
Two different issues those two. Just because the punk ‘movement’ (if it could be called that) was mostly expressed with music that came to be what we call punk rock, doesn’t mean punk rock nowadays has to be tied with a punk’s opinions.
Bad Religion is surely punk rock but they’re not trying to be anarchists or unorganized.
But when you go to say Blink 182 “pushed” pop-punk or that they did something good (besides a few hits worthy of being played once every 4 months) is plain idiocy.
@...dieAntagonista: i don’t see how masochistic is coming into this…but alrighty then. I don’t think the comparison was bad at all, I know just what to expect if i let a elitist metalhead listen to Dancehall.
you really think American Idiot is the best punk album ever?
@...Dreth: Yeah I agree with what you said exactly. That’s all there is to it when it comes to Blink 182 for me.
@...ColombianMonkey:
Masochistic because of the mental rape I receive when trying to talk to said people.
“to there own opinion” it is.
@...dieAntagonista: so your pleased with the mental rape *raise eye brow*. if your masochistic is the same as i know. “pleasure in being abused or dominated : a taste for suffering” as in the opposite of sadism.
@...dieAntagonista: You might want to read what Dreth wrote.
“But when you go to say Blink 182… did something good… is plain idiocy.”
@...ColombianMonkey:
Haha yeah I enjoy mental rape in moderation. Which is why I’m on MCS. But I think I’m more of a sadist than a masochist.
Marquis de Sade, represent yo.
@...Paul_Is_Drunk:
Where did I say that Blink 182 did anything good?
Fuck Green Day. Fuck Blink182 even harder. Tie them all to the motherfucking train tracks.
I miss Operation Ivy. Somebody bring ’em back. This new shit sucks my ass.
I know there is hardly any quality in their music, but as Dreth said, they had a few hits worthy songs that are nice to listen to, no matter what genre it is or isn’t.
@Everyone:
Holy shit! All I can say is that I stand by what I said. See to me, I was just about to turn 18 and go to college when Dude Ranch came out, and it was the first taste of “main-stream” punk I got. Sure there was The Offspring and various ska bands, and there were always the bands like: Less than Jake, NoFx, Bad Religion, Social-D and Pennywise; but with Blink, it was a completely different sound.
Then once I was in college, Enema of the State came out with one of the most refreshing sounds in the post-grunge, end-of-rock, late 90’s. In other words, it was “catchy” (Dub pop-punk genre here) The whole concept of not just the music, but the “apparent” lifestyle of the band members was probably how every 20 year old felt being knee deep in girls and parties half-way through trying to decide out what you wanted to major in.
Now, to say they laid the groundwork for pop-punk is not a bad statement. Lets name some of the bands that found their niche in this genre: Sum 41, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, Zebrahead Yellowcard, MxPx, Riddlin’ Kids, Simple Plan…just to name a few.
We could also talk about how some of Blink’s songs, the slower, more serious ones like: Adam’s Song, Stay Together for the Kids, or Miss You, could be rooted in the fundamental aspects of Emo (don’t even get me started about how many pop-emo-punk bands there are)
My point is, that I’ll take anyone of your punk bands from the 70’s, 80’s, early 90’s; hell I’ll take all of them from all those decades together, and show you that it would never add up to as many albums sold, as many sold-out-International-stadium tours, as many fans, as many DVDs, and as much pussy that Blink got, compared to any one of those old-school punk bands.
man, I remember when they were around and everyone was like “blink who?” and I was like fuck you, I found them first, but then everyone was listening to them, and I heard them on the radio and I was like, fuck it I’ll like them regardless of their Clear Channel Cred.
fuuuuuuuuu
@...token2k6:
Hm yea I hate to say it, but the masses don’t always glorify something because it’s good. In fact, for the most part they don’t. So to point out how many albums they sold is completely irrelevant.
And Avril Lavigne? Really? Oh please.
Blink 182 are walking billboards, and if they didn’t look the way they look, hardly any kids would listen to them.
@Awesome1: Yes, an album with a nearly 10 minute long, solid anthem of pure punk rock (Jesus of Surbabia) surely is one of the better punk albums out there.
However, what really did it for me (I’ll be honest, only the first 6 tracks are really great) was that it led to the spectacular Bullet In a Bible. Never before had I been so enthralled by a live rockumentary, that I bought the CD/DVD and the freaking PSP/UMD!
Bullet In a Bible’s hyped-up, live version’s of old classics, combined with the kick-ass tracks from American Idiot is like a one-two punch… hard to compete with.
@...dieAntagonista: Marquis de Sade was one insane fellow who spend 32 years in asylum. too bad his son burned all his unpublished manuscripts, including the immense multi-volume work Les Journées de Florbelle, would really wanted to know his work.
Sadomasochism ftw? it’s funny because i am primarily interested Richard von Krafft-Ebing & Sigmund Freud, and wasn’t sigmond an austrian if i’m correct. Could explain allot of thing in relation with you lol.
@dieAntagonista: I just put her in there b/c I’ve fucked her.
@...ColombianMonkey: There is enough of Marquis work available, do not fret, contact me and I’ll provide you with anything you would need.
“and wasn’t sigmond an austrian if i’m correct. Could explain allot of thing in relation with you”
Another one of the dopest compliments I have ever gotten. Thank you.
Oliver Twisted is my brother.
By the way, punk is a drug you moron.
Taking xgarbledmission’s meme to the next level.
And by xgarbledmission I mean GARBLEDXMISSION.
Sorry. I got caffeine flowing through my veins and bacteria gang banging in the window cracks.
@...token2k6:
“…and as much pussy that Blink got…”
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
*passes out laughing*
Dude. Seriously? You’re going to compare any band from the era of free love, birth control, and no AIDS to a band that played during the Bush administration on how many women they’ve been with? Then lump them together and still make the comparison?
No. Again. Seriously?
Aaaaaaand you’re going to use this as justification for why you like this band?
@...token2k6:
“I just put her in there b/c I’ve fucked her.”
🙂 Your immaturity makes me smile.
@...dieAntagonista: if you do come online i’d had the chance to *eyeroll* .
In other news:
caffeine? weakling pff i use no substances to keep me awake.
They pretty much did release an album if you listen to +44.
+44, angels and airwaves, box car racer and transplats are side projects of blink 182 members
also travis barker sounds great here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKQgDY0pZ68
@...zondron: Agreed, and here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI
Gross.
Blink’s last decent album was Dude Ranch and when they broke into mainstream the first thing was depart from that fast-paced punk rock.
You may acknowledge as worthy of recognition paving the way to bullshit bands like Simple Plan but to people not glued to MTV, it’s plain shit and it procreates even more shit.
The only one with talent is Travis and he plays hip hop songs on drums. That’s just plain sad.
I love Blink 182! Nothing beats dick and fart jokes told to music. So everyone lighten the fuck up, its happy time again.
American Idiot was the worst album ever…
liked them a lot when I was younger. But I thought that hey had a bad break up, so I’m wondering that there will be another album.
