So I decided to test out Windows & and I decided to hit the “what to know before installing windows” button and this is what it gave me. This pic isn\’t doctored in any way, go ahead install 7 and see for yourself.
all you mac fanboys and Microsoft haters beware: Windows 7 is the ultimate pinnacle of any operating system ever and will re-establish Microsoft as having one of the best and most robust OS’s to date. I’ve had the beta for 3 weeks now and have had nary a problem except for doing stupid things when I shouldn’t have been.
the way to move b/t windows is so unique and fast you’ll quickly forget how you could have 12 little icons next to the start button and are given one icon for each app (you ‘pin’ them) containing its own windows. Right clicking an icon, say for Word, will even show you’re Most Recent files just right there!
I would gladly hand over $100 to Microsoft right now if this OS were to come out of Beta and be official (and from what I can tell its pretty damn near close to being perfect and getting better w/ every update)
Vista 2.0? sure, i’ve told many its like a “glorified” vista, but this will completely get rid of the sore at the top of your mouth that you can’t stop tonguing, that sore being XP and Vista.
And, imo, Vista sucks. So why the hell are you installing it? I removed Vista from my new comp and installed Indego instead. No more obnoxious “security” pop ups.
@...token2k6: That last sentence is somewhat strange. @...CathyLong: That’s not Vista being installed, it’s Windows 7. However, they forgot to change the instructions for installation to say “Windows 7”.
Anyways, Windows 7 is amazing. I’ve used it on my friend’s computer, and I will be installing it on mine as soon as I fix it.
This platform is still in Beta testing this is pretty common for any beta release. The final step of publishing software is to install the dummy/help features.
It’s not those who need instructions that can typically point out substructure flaws, thus beta testers are selected through a competency process.
i work for a software company – i’m in charge of the latest version of my module, and barely any of the documentation is updated (presentations, demos, screenshots, even some parts of the manual, etc)…and we’re installing it at some test sites. not too surprising that their documentation isn’t updated either (usually last thing on their list)
@...goatsgomoo: You need some fight club in your life “Marla… She’s like that sore at the top of your mouth that would heal if you could only stop tonguing it”
Okay, I’ll watch Fight Club tomorrow night. The amount of media I should have consumed is getting ridiculous, and Fight Club has been near the top of the list of movies I should watch for far too long.
Also, CathyLong, your blog is excellent.
@...paulo: Windows Flip and Flip 3D, Windows Side Bar, Ready Window search feature, Jpeg support without using Active Desktop as a fix… using video card support rather than Cache Rendering means smoother images when dragging a window… HUGE changes and you make this comparison like XP to Vista, I disagree. XP was like a glorified 2000, and my God the cycle begins.
@...Puulaahi: and @...goatsgomoo:
Do what he said. And skip on Choke. It’s a decent book, a good movie for a drinking game, but Chuck has better books in his lineup than that. :*
IMO it was a case of people too lazy or stupid to learn about what they bought and instead tried to retard their way through it. So they got Macs which are so idiot proof even people who alt ctrl delete to get out of anything and download from warez can’t break them.
Well its been running for a week now or so and I haven’t had any major problems. I was most surprised that I didn’t have to install a single driver, nothing not one, none for my mother board, none for the video card, nothing, I took this pic while I was installing 7 on a machine with a phenom quad core 9500 x4, 4 gigs of ddr2 ram, and a nvidia 9500gt 1 gig video card, everything works perfect.
though for some reason & does not like my 4 port KVM, not sure why, all my other machines like it fine.
windows 7 also uses less resources then vista, i had it installed but i couldnt get IE or windows live to work so i couldnt report on errors so i had to format and go back to vista, but the options of 7 are so awesome i totally agree with token2k6
I’ve been running the Windows 7 beta for a while now. I installed it as a dual-boot, because beta anything makes me nervous, but have been using it almost exclusively ever since. I have a few programs that don’t run quite right, but they were grumpy enough under Vista, so that’s to be expected. I could wax eloquent about it’s awesomeness, but instead I’ll just say thing: I convinced a friend to install it under BootCamp on his MacBook Pro, and he now uses it more than Leopard.
I have loved windows 7 much better than XP which is much better than vista. Too bad the school won’t let me have it on my laptop… I have to run it on a virtual machine instead which doesn’t let you experience all of the goodies. Still very good can’t wait for the release
If it’s supposed to be faster, why the hell do the system requirements seem to quadruple?
Sure, its’ all fine and dandy for those of you that have quad-core monsters with 3 video cards and 30 World of Warcraft accounts, what about the casual buyer that doesn’t want to upgrade every frickin’ year and doesn’t care about eye-candy?
Vista is all eye-candy, PLUS a confirmation box for every idiotic action (they call it security, HAH).
Windows 7 looks like yet even more eye-candy PLUS raised system specs, oh and it looks more and more like a fuckin’ Mac GUI.
No thank you sir, I’ll stick with Microsoft’s last decent shot at on OS, Windows XP.
@caffino54 i as well am sick of people slaggin vista for all the “are you sure you want to do this?” pop-ups. Just turn it off. @everyone As far as crashing goes, I know 90% of people don’t know what a windows update is…trust me…i do house calls for computers….get the new SP…or if you have speed issues, don’t run vista on a computer that came with windows ME i recommend atleast a duel core processor and 3g of ram….ok…i’m done
@...llamamanzero: They are ridiculous because you can get the same eye-candy (and more, way more) on systems like openSuSe with far less expensive hardware.
They’re hogs, unnecessarily raising specs because they can’t optimize their code and shit.
I can understand that from a business point of view, because they give hardware companies more sales. It’s still paying more for being able to run a GUI with semi-transparent windows. Pfft.
Look at the normal gaming applications and video editing software… the “average” computer user has developed into a more in-depth use for a personal computer. If you don’t like it there are always configurations/platforms that are meant for you, but please don’t think your going to impede progress by embracing efficiency… Mouse support and even the concept of windows seemed like a waste to advanced users back when Windows first launch and look at the compatibility that followed it’s launch.
Maybe one day Google will actually launch their OS system, until than I am all aboard for Windows, and there Beta versions, you are still welcome to complain on your under-indulged Winnebago 2k or NT
You are comparing apples to oranges, actually no, rotten apples to fresh oranges.
You make a good point, what seemed ridiculous back then is common/essential nowadays.
But we’re talking about functionality vs. eye-candy here, mention something, anything, of Vista that has changed in terms of efficiency. Something new, innovative that will most likely pave the way to something more useful and efficient.
You can praise the fade effects and Aero look all you want but in the end they do nothing to render a more enjoyable experience and they do everything to render otherwise perfectly functioning hardware practically useless.
This is all aimed at Vista because I use it at work against my will, not at Windows Seven/Vista 2.0 or whatever you want to call it.
@...Dreth:
In Vista’s defense we are in the middle of a transition from 32MB to 64MB chip-sets, Vista recognizes this transition by offering both Vista x32/x64, also out there for those who want to preserve there system resources for more worthwhile causes are two settings Basic and Premium.
Minimum system requirements for Basic
800 MHz
Memory 512
Graphics card DirectX 9.0
Graphics memory 32 MB
HDD capacity 20 GB
HDD free space 15 GB
Other drives DVD-ROM
Minimum system requirements for Premium
1 GHz
Memory 1 GB
Graphics card DirectX 9.0 capable
Graphics memory 128 MB
HDD capacity 40 GB
HDD free space 15 GB
Other drives DVD-ROM
Vista set to basic settings can run on even the most basic of paleontologic machines so we can all feel free to change your settings to classic A.K.A. Lame, not enjoy an operating system that recognizes that kick start our graphics card can render, I’m not going to sit there with “system gray” smug look on my face knowing my CPU is running at minimal capacity I prefer the finer A.K.A. optimal things in life…
I’m not saying go open source Linux/Red Hat, I’m just saying there’s a configuration that Vista has provides for you that fits even a Pentium 4 machine very nicely.
I can hardly see your IT team getting upset that you have done away with the premium config on your work station.
@...Dublin0: get your grammar right asshole (before anyone else does it)
*Their not there
*and we can all feel free to change our settings not your…
*Has provided for you not has provides
My deepest and sincere apologies to all of you semantics Nazis out there
@...Dreth: I do see your point and that the frustration is toward the overall demands compared to the yeilds being too high, but I feel this is progress towards a desktop to be more functional, alive, useful, and personal than a background picture and gateway of icons… this could be the first step toward everyone having their very own Jarvis
think like this .. there going to make shit that will make you buy more shit to run there new shit. if you cannot handle the shit, don’t put your face in the shit. cause your system cannot handle the shit. and don’t complain about the shit if your system cannot handle the shit. xp is good but i like vista. it makes my shit things to do much easier. and i have no problem running this shit on my shit.so until the new shit is out im enjoying this shit.

… I don’t get it.
I read the whole thing 18 times.
And, imo, Vista sucks. So why the hell are you installing it? I removed Vista from my new comp and installed Indego instead. No more obnoxious “security” pop ups.
So it uses the same installer and the documentation for it hasnt been updated because its a beta. Clearly means its vista 2.0 :/
Better than Windows 98. I call bullshit.
@...goatsgomoo:
Thanks. It was the image title that made me say “wtf? why would you want a vista 2.0???”
So Microsoft has lazy copy/paste programmers, it’s not any different than my company. lawl.
Yay, Bill Gates gets more money. And Microsoft gets to screw up another perfectly good idea.
@...token2k6: I hope meant all that sarcastically.
Well, DUH. Of COURSE Windows 7 is Vista 2.0. WTF did you expect?!
windows 7 is a mix of vista/xp & technology from batman utility belt
This platform is still in Beta testing this is pretty common for any beta release. The final step of publishing software is to install the dummy/help features.

@...ColombianMonkey: LOL’d

@...paulo: No, that’s not what makes it Vista 2.0. The fact that it’s Vista with a bunch of bugfixes is what makes it Vista 2.0
@DublinO: ur a homo. i know this cuz ur dancing like a homo in front of me.
@DublinO: thanks for catching onto that! i didn’t want to be the one to have to say it, how sacreligious (sp) to not know!!

@...goatsgomoo: You won’t be dissapointed (damn I broke the first rule)
already something good has come from 7’s release.
Vista = fail
@...goatsgomoo: Get off the fucking computer and watch Fight Club! Better yet, read it first.
@...Puulaahi: There’s a book holy shit I feel secluded and naive
@Tyger42: so by that logic vista is xp but with more bugs?
@...paulo: Windows Flip and Flip 3D, Windows Side Bar, Ready Window search feature, Jpeg support without using Active Desktop as a fix… using video card support rather than Cache Rendering means smoother images when dragging a window… HUGE changes and you make this comparison like XP to Vista, I disagree. I’ve never had a single problem with Vista.
IMO it was a case of people too lazy or stupid to learn about what they bought and instead tried to retard their way through it. So they got Macs which are so idiot proof even people who alt ctrl delete to get out of anything and download from warez can’t break them.
Windows XP is not a bad system.
@...paulo: Actually, since the service pack, Vista’s run better than XP ever has for me.
Well its been running for a week now or so and I haven’t had any major problems. I was most surprised that I didn’t have to install a single driver, nothing not one, none for my mother board, none for the video card, nothing, I took this pic while I was installing 7 on a machine with a phenom quad core 9500 x4, 4 gigs of ddr2 ram, and a nvidia 9500gt 1 gig video card, everything works perfect.

why does everyone complain about the UAC in vista
i just turned it off..
hehe i’m on windows 7 right now
its brilliant and snappy
and it’s only crashed once for me, which is impressive for a beta
@...caffino54: likewise. except no crashes. 😀
Bill Gates is not the CEO of microsoft.
@...caffino54: people are seriously lazy to press accept.
@...djpeezee: He’s also quite the philanthropist, nobody seems to recognize that
If it’s supposed to be faster, why the hell do the system requirements seem to quadruple?

Oops, my bad about the system specs thing.
The rest I’m not gonna apologize for, though. Might as well turn Windows into MacSoft, since they look so much alike.

@ColombianMonkey Amen, sir.
