Picture from the Schloss in Würzburg.
Either all of the Heraldric animals were already taken and this poor bastard got stuck with the hedgehog
or
This sucker purchased a shield with an eagle and the German vendor gave him “Ein Igel”.

Maybe this guy was really really fast.
This is the very first Sonic game.
Should’ve been a spiked shield.
So there must be another statue nearby with an Echidna.
Aw man, ack has been to all the fine places. I fucking love Würzburg.
And even though it’s been a while since I’ve been there, I’m pretty sure I heard someone mention that Würzburg is known for having many Igels.
@...RSIxidor: I doubt it… 🙂
@...dieAntagonista:
Igels in Würzburg… its more likely than I thought.
This could be true though. I live 100k from Würzburg, and we do have a lot of hedgehogs here. None of them are particularly fast, however…
I kicked an Igel *one time* while in Freiburg, and I still get crap about it to this day. I’m sure it’s from this guy’s family.
@...Paul_Is_Drunk:
Kicked an Igel? Damn, brother. That is low.
I heard that John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy kicked hedgehogs and that’s why they was so evil.
@...ack:
Aha! See? I was right. Yeah the area there is especially lovely. Perfect for Igels.
Igels aren’t fast? Have you never seen Sonic in action! Oh snap.
@...RSIxidor: Or maybe he is Ron Jeremy’s ancestor….
What do you mean by “Schloss”?
“Residenz” or “Festung Marienberg”?
I’ve been born there, but never seen this statue
I want to go to Europe and check out statues.
@...isnochys:
Festung Marienberg. There is museum on the western side. This statue is located at the entrance to the hall of classic nut crackers.
For those not into Germanic fetishes – I shit you not – there is a whole section of the museum dedicated to “nut crackers through the ages”.
@...Puulaahi:
Just hit the Louvre, best collection I have ever seen. Or let me know when you hit German dirt and I will drag you on a pub crawl through Nürnberg or Stuttgart.
@...ack: Yes, the Louvre is a must indeed. Germany would be awesome. MMMMMMMMMM beer.
@...Puulaahi: don’t for get your side order of tatas 🙂
@ack: Nürnberg? You’re kidding me, I’m living there. Perhaps I even know you ^^.My god, how many Germans are here at MCS? We all should meet someday. And drink good German beer for poor tiki.
@...Miraluka:
Nicht genug, aber wir haben auch eine hübsche Östereicherin.
I used to live in Nürnberg Südstadt, just off of Gibitzenhof. Now I live 100k away and return as often as I can. It’s an awesome city to live in and I wish that I was back there.
The world is incredibly small, even the world of the internets. I bet someday in the past we met in the subway. Nuremberg really is beautiful, and it is a pity that many of the medieval buildings were destroyed in WW II.
Außerdem sind Lebkuchen einfach toll. 🙂
