This mimic travels through areas where there is no cover, so normal octopus camouflage won’t work.. They can mimic a dozen of sea critters. It changes as it’s moving depending on what it perceives the threat to be. Sometimes it’s a poisonous flounder, sometimes a poisonous sea snake or even a lionfish.
I just recently watched something about these guys…Oh yeah, it was on a show called Evolve!, Episode: Shapes. It was pretty cool.

The mimic octopus has been my favorite critter for years now. Simply amazing to watch them morph into their various disguises.
