@...outofocus: I saw it when it was first released, 1973 I think, and went to the big screen (70mm) screen and the theater (sort of jokingly) handed out airline puke bags. I basically watched the whole movie from between my fingers.
@...nyokki: I think that movies were a lot more potent then than they are now. I saw The Exorcist for the first time when I was a kid. Totally freaked me out. I saw it again when they released it and it still freaked me out. I liked the third one as well.
I saw Clockwork Orange when I was 19. I knew nothing about the movie so my experience when seeing it was very much like it would have been when it first came out. I saw it with a bunch of movie buffs who blathered on and on. I couldn’t understand why they were so detached from the scenes in the movie. It was a very well done movie but I felt moderately traumatized after watching it.
@...outofocus: Ditto on both. My elder brothers thought it would be a hoot to take me along. Mom and especially dad were not pleased. Traumatized is a good word for my experience of both films. My family and I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey at an Art Theater and couldn’t understand why no one seemed to get it. What I understood at 7 or 8 eluded me later when I saw it as an adult.
@...nyokki: I haven’t seen 2001 yet. My son was just talking to me about it the other day. He hasn’t seen it either so I’m thinking maybe to rent it. I have the book in my “to read” pile.

Was not until I saw this without distraction that I finally got the “Capt’n Howdy” reference from Twisted Sister and the movie “Strangeland” (both with Dee Snyder)
Had a crush on Linda when this came out!
Scared the shit out of me then, and still does now.
@...nyokki: Me too. It’s the only horror flick that has ever scared me.
