One of these helicopters (A Eurocopter Dauphin) has been running back and forth infront of my office building all day along the Potomac river because Fairfax County, in VA, lost one of their guys down river a ways during a training exercise.
No word yet on whether he’s still alive, but it’s got several surrounding counties involved, plus the FBI and USCG kicking in aerial resources to try and locate the missing officer.
Been there, done that (over a hundred jumps), enjoyed every minute of it, except I flew in H-2s, H-3s, and H-60s, not this piece of euro-trash. I’m wondering if everyone in the water can actually fit inside a Dauphin or if they have to use the safety/rescue boat that took this picture?
Also, it was a Fairfax County Police diver who was lost tuesday during that training excerise. They still haven’t found him.
are they 4 or five in the picture, the one far on the right seems to be 2…
That’s incredibly surreal.
It’s a stunning picture.
And they’ve been trained to swim back to the city from there. Just like Frogmen, EOs, Seals, UWD, etc….
