This made me go pick up my guitar and play the old standard. (Seriously, if you started with a new band in the 90’s, this and Smells Like Teen Spirit were the first two songs you played to see if you could play together).

Heard some good things about their new one. Death Magnetic. General comments I hear is it’s a return to their pre-Black Album days….

Not even fucking close. Some of this could easily be Pearl Jam or some shit
Fuck Mettalica. Listen to the ten song preview. Its not awful music, but I certainly don’t think the claim that they’ve returned to their start or that this is the return of a heavy Metallica or any of that shit makes any sense. I heard one song on there that made me even slightly interested and his voice could easily be Weird Al.
I used to like Metallica when I was a wee young lad.
I own Death Magnet and Metallica is definitely back, Hard riffs, looong guitar solos that at times sound like And Justice For All/ Master of Puppets… Doesn’t sound anything like crap Load/Reload and certainly not like the last beyond crap album. I know it’s cool to hate Metallica and after the last album, I understand. But give em a chance. They have come a long way, new producer and no more alcohollica. The old 80’s Metallica will never completely return, they are too old. Reality does not work like that. Only works if you are ACDC.
