What’s being said is that a state-controlled economy (as opposed to the free-market) is not necessary for redistribution of wealth, I think you and Frank misconstrued each other.
It’s always amusing how the upper class has fooled those who’d benefit the most from socialized programs into opposing them. Like it’s some great huge evil to not have to worry about bankrupting your entire family if you get sick… btw, if the government provided health insurance, you’d get to take home more money cuz your employer would no longer have to pay your insurance costs. Then every economy is controlled. If you take my tax dollars and give them to the construction company to build roads that is a redistribution of wealth and controlling the economy.

A controlled economy is not communism. Communism at its basest form is a lot like Buddhism or more specifically the principles of Sangha. Its the community working towards the greater good of the whole.

btw: we have universal healthcare up here in socialist-democratic Canada and it has its flaws as well. Such as abuse (anything free gets fucked).
If America had universal healthcare your employer would not give any money back to you, you’d find its chaotic and misused 99% of the time, and you’d end up regretting it.

Communism is a form of socialism. Not the other way round. That’s why you have Democratic Socialists, Fabian(Utopian Socialists), and so on. Communism is generally based on Marxist theory, though not necessarily (see Chinese Communism).

I don’t think it’s possible for any system to be perfect. The government should be interested in keeping it’s tax payers healthy enough to be productive. It’s my guess that many people would continue to pay for health care because the free system would be inconvenient to them but the free system could potentially force current health insurance companies to lower their rates in order to compete.
I can’t guess at an ideal solution but something needs to change to reel in the insurance companies. They have too much influence on the medical fields. I’m not sure money should be coming from our pockets. There is plenty of money being wasted by the government that could be put to better use.
I think I’ll get make me a baby burrito.
