In the end i had to carry my dog just around the corner to relieve herself, the most awful time of my life. One afternoon i came home and my father took me apart straight away to tell me he had let chara fall asleep at the vets, i cried my eyes out in disbelief and also acceptance, for i knew that this was for the best.
this memory still brings tears to my eyes, just as it does right now……………
Memories and tears…sometimes a good thing, but not right now. My black lab is now 14 years old and for the 2nd time in my life I will (soon) have to make such an agonizing choice. I don’t know if I can take the heartbreak.
jesus christ. i’ve been stalking this blog for about 5…maybe 6 months now and never registered. I finally did because of this post. I kept waiting for it to get funny in some sick way…like Rusty fucked the poodle and mutated dogs came out and ate his mom or something. But this was just depressing as shit!
This is like what happened to me and my dog. Except my dog was 6 months older than i was, he was 18 and i was 17 when we had to put him down. He was alive every day of my life until July 3rd 2006. 🙁
i had a golden retriver /husky mix for 15 years and in 2001 we realized her time was up. My cousin who is a veterinarian anesthesiologist came to my house. Me and my brother held her down as he shaved the spot at the base of her tail, and then we held her as he gave her the shot. It was peaceful and at home and not in some vets office. We then helped him stuff her into a black garbage bag and duct tape it up, so he could bring it back to the hospital and throw it in the incinerator.
Huh. A vet would tell him he should leave? When I had to put my cat to sleep a few years ago, I was about two feet away, and assisted when they had to shave a bit of fur from his front leg. No way could I leave my animal until the very end.
I remember my first true pet, an awesome Golden Retriever named Tiger, grow up from a little puppy prancing and pouncing around to witnessing him not even being able to stand up after receiving a call from the vet while we were on vacation at a Water Park. I was foolishly and heartlessly out having fun while my best friend was dying in a cold, concrete, caged cell. I watched him get put to sleep, he whimpered and cried as his life faded away. That event is burnt into my mind forever.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, “I can’t bear to watch” or “Let it happen in my absence”. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, Irrespective of what you do I will always love you.
i had a german sheppard and chow mix, beautiful dog. i had him since i was three, the dog was already two years old and belonged to a retired sheriff. one summer, i think i was 11 or 12, i went to california for two months to see my family. i went with just my sister and i. when i arrived at the airport i called my parents to tell them we landed ok, then didn’t pick up. they called later that night, mind you my two month vacation just started, to tell me that ‘bear’, my dog, won’t be there when i got back. he was going blind in one eye, heart murmur and worms… the last thing i remember is waving ‘bye’ to my house and family with him behind the gate and his face said to me, “i’ll see you when you get back”, he had so much fight left in him. this was over 8 years ago. no pets since then either…
Took me years to forget my old dog, a 13 year’d old Irish Setter..Loved her with all my heart….I witnessed her being taken to sleep….took me years to forget…and now im sitting here crying cuz u brought it up again…bah thanks for ruining my night.
“…Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle on my throne as the prince of bel-air.”

Wow, thats a sad story and I can identify with it.
Bummer…

The only good thing about this post is that the picture is a GIF.
I was sure the story was going to say that the guy had to help rusty shag the poodle…damn that would have made for a much more interesting story!
excuse while i go kill myself.
ah! Tiki, wtf! Why you gotta go make cry?
My dog was a hungarian viszla, i was 17 when she died and she’d been with me for 15 years, *sobs*

:'( And soon my puppy girl is going to be too old. She already can’t make it up stairs and falls down.
Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any worse.
