Women in Iran mostly wear the hejab, but the kind of face-covering depicted here is not that common (called the chador). Iran is actually one of the more liberal Muslim countries when it comes to what women wear in public. They mostly just wear a head covering and long, loose clothing.

Saudi Arabia (one of Bush’s close pals) is MUCH more strict about what women can wear, and their rule is enforced by militant religious police.
The US’s favor with Middle East countries turns on a dime… remember Iraq was our buddy up til about ’89-90 or so. Then they invaded Kuwait and Bush Sr. decided it was time to show he wasn’t a “wimp”. Though I give him credit for being smart enough to stay out of Iraq, unlike his idiot son.
Even Iran was our buddy, til they overthrew the Shah, a.k.a. the puppet king installed by the west. Most of the anger they have towards the west is justified by our past actions.

Duece is pretty much right on. Read up on Kermit Roosevelt and the actions of the CIA in 1953 vis. Mossadegh.
The problem with duece’s assessment of history is all of the things he left out (which is a lot), not to mention his bias.
Yeah the stuff that deuce left out was that the Shah was put in power by overthrowing a democratically elected leader.
And that Kuwait had violated an international treaty by drilling an oil reserve on the border with Iraq, then made up stories about Iraqi soldiers throwing babies out of incubators.

You need to learn the complex truth of history, not from a bunch of conspiracy weirdoes, or ivory-towered college professors, but from real sources and, here’s the hard part, you need to put yourself into the shoes of the people who made decisions at that time and try not to use hindsight to be critical of their choices. But, I’m pretty sure you can’t, because I believe you see the world in black and white (i.e. the US is bad and anyone the US had issues with is not).
