The common argument that gun advocates give is that everyone should have a gun because criminals have guns. Where do criminals get the guns? They aren’t legal guns, because if they were legal then we could solve the problem by preventing criminals from getting legal guns. Therefore we must assume that criminals use illegal guns.
Where do illegal guns come from? There are no factories that produce illegal guns. If there were the problem would be solved by closing the illegal gun factories. Therefore we must assume that legal guns are somehow converted to illegal guns. This conversion happens, for example, when a legal gun gets stolen or is lost.
With the above in mind, we can assume that the more there are legal guns around the more legal guns are converted to illegal guns for criminals to use. So, in order to reduce the number of illegal guns one must reduce the amount of legal guns.
Think about it for a second. Think free capitalism. The more illegal guns there are the cheaper they will be for the criminal to buy. When guns are cheap even petty criminals can get them. If guns were scarce, then only hard criminals would have them. Hard criminals, such as drug dealers and organized crime, seldom interact with law abiding citizens because they get their income from lesser criminals. When guns are cheap even the drug addict that comes to steal your DVD player will have a gun. This is a prime example of a snowball effect. When you buy a gun you make it easier for a petty thief to get a gun because the gun manufacturer can manufacture and sell the guns cheaper (mass production).

You also fail to understand that a gun is an “instakill” weapon even in untrained hands while a knife in untrained hands is not. It is easier to shoot someone because you know the victim will not stand up to fight after the first shot. Carrying a gun doesn’t mean you don’t get shot. The person who will shoot you will always have the advantage of surprise. You will not have time to draw your weapon before you get killed (and the bad guys will then have one more illegal handgun thanks to you carrying one).

i dont own a gun. i did serve in the army in the mid 90’s and i qualified expert in BRM from the get fucking go. the reason i dont own a gun is because i have small children in my home. i’m sure i will purchase one or two once the smallest is in his teens.

The number one thing that needs to be done is get out and vote and get the liberal bastards out of office that do not enforce the very strict gun laws that are already on record. Until then, passing more laws is not going to solve the problem.
I have always had a weapon handy whileliving in a rural area. The local law enforcement cannot protect you when it takes 15-30 minutes to arrive. Luckily we have passed a conceal carry law.
BTW cars should be made illegal as cars are used to kill people. Less cars would make less illegal cars.
