Because they are bastards and believe they are the super race. I was reading their official website yesterday and thought.. Wow this would make a good science fiction novel and then BAM! I realised that it was pulled out of an ass by a science fiction writer! What a weird coincidence that a FICTION writer made all this up.
It’s an experiment in behavioral science! Science fiction guy said, “Hmm, I’m not a behavioral scientist, but this would make for super lulz when they put me in the grave! I’ll make up a religion!”
And so he followed in the path of the twelve disciples, who had an in depth knowledge of the prophecies of the Jews and made their books to fit.
Actually, scientology is the result of a bar bet between Hubbard and two other sci-fi authors as to who could create their own religion, unfortunately Hubbard started believing his own bullshit and it got the better of him.

Because it’s not a Cross, but a Symbol of Chaos, or strikethrough Cross – denial of Christian teaching. So it is not a Cross.

A quote from Scientology and the Occult at www.lermanet.com:
Influences of Aleister Crowley are found in Scientology “technology,” or teaching materials – including L Ron Hubbard’s own admission that he was the “anti-Christ.” Aleister Crowley died in 1947. But in 1969, the same year that Scientology donned the crosses and minister’s garb, was the same time that the “Thoth Tarot Card Deck” was published and sold, a product produced years before, by Aleister Crowley with artist Lady Frieda Harris (deceased in 1962). This [1969] was the same year that L Ron Hubbard directed members to bring in the crossed out cross and wear minister’s clothing. – End of quote
