I was thinking the same thing as Lord_Gorlock, that its interesting how is less that 100 years religion was stopped out by communism.
And the corollary is that the only two most widespread religions (Christianity and Islam) were spread by violence, genocide and forced conversions. Without small pox, the world would have been a lot different.
There are some fucked things about that map. For example, Georgians are lumped with East Orthodox, but I’m pretty sure the majority would fit better with the light pink ‘eastern christian churches’. The wahabitis and other peninsular extremists are lumped in with the sunnis, which just seems lazy on the map maker’s part.
I’ve read that Scandinavia and Japan have largely become agnostic over the years, but maybe I’m wrong and I’m too damn lazy to look it up.
Lumping Sunnis in with sheas, with radicals is pure laziness, but so it “protestants†& “random churches.†The map would be better if it showed where Brethren, Lutheran, Baptists etcetera were the majority. What makes Mormons any different from the other protestant denominations?
Additionally, much of Russia & the former USSR is religious, there simply isn’t a dominate church yet. Eastern Orthodox is popular, as are newer Pentecostal denominations such as the Assemblies of God.
I would wager that that large slice of Agnostics is the only good that came out of communism dominating Russia and China for the last century.

Finally, it will be safe to walk the streets at night.

Why is there a blotch of Jews just to the north of China in southern Russia?
