If you’ve played Gears of War you’ll have had a small taste of what the Unreal Engine 3 is capabile of. GOW was a rush job my Microsoft believe it or not, Epic Games has been developing UT2007 for almost three times that. All this translates to bigger better faster sexier textures/visuals for you PC gamers. I don’t know about the rest of you… but I CANT WAIT MUCH LONGER!

But is it more FUN?
My formal prediction for the advancement of technology is that they will be able to do the same thing in half of the space.
Pretty soon technology will advance far enough in the advent of flash drives that the computer will get wittled down to it’s bare essentials unil there are no more moving parts in it.
No more hard drives, it’s all flash ram.
No more cooling fans, as the processors will consume half the power at twice the output.
Just wait, another 20 years, and you’ll see how the operating system will be more powerful than xp, and take up less than 20 megs, because the environment itself will be under compression.
Imagine operating your entire computer as if it were in a big zip file, just because the processor has THAT much available resources at it’s disposal.

The problem is the more powerful hardware gets the bigger software gets. I don’t see software getting any smaller when the programmers can be more sloppy with their coding and not worry about the strain on a system when the computer they are programming for is more powerful. I expect Flash memory getting larger and larger, and the hardware in computers more powerful, but software and games will just follow this expansion.
Is anyone going to look close enough to really care about the difference between 2 and 3? And they already make 20 MB OS. Go install DOS.
Most versions of DOS were actually a lot smaller than 20 megs. And the differences between 2 and 3 are massive – a lot less cartoonish.
Utter crap to complete crap: A stunning transition.
All that Unreal has going for in compared to the other FPS engines is nice still shots. See any of those sprites move (most likely running straight at you, or ducking behind a crate with invisible components), they’ll look blocky and akward and as crap as every other aspect of Unreal. It’s Unreal that company still stays in business, or that people licence their engine, fuck’s sakes.
I predict the next iteration will look just like this:
